Translate traducir 翻訳する vertaal
When i'm using my phone there are text to translation features built into the interface for easier communitying. Would Steam benefit from a click to translate feature in the forums?

Copy and paste for we need translations built in...

It would be nice if people used the search feature and READ all the other threads on that topic....

Short version, Valve screwed up spell check, they can not do a translation themselves. They have around 350ish people that work for Valve, most of who do not work on Steam. Google, who is an information tech company, who has been working on translations for 20 years, who has thousands of people to dedicated to just that one project can't get translations right.

100+ different languages with 140+ million active accounts a month, 30+ million active accounts a day, over 1 billion accounts total that they have to get right, because one mistranslated and they get blamed for what went wrong.

Valve is also not going to pay for it because its very expensive for companies to buy the service from other companies and Valve makes nothing from it so its just a money sink. 100+ different languages with 140+ million active accounts a month, 30+ million active accounts a day, over 1 billion accounts total. Thats going to be expensive.

Use AI to translate you might say.... Well its VERY expensive to run AI servers, they are power hungry... & also the "AI" that people think they are talking about is not actual AI, its just large language models that take a long time to program.

Companies like google, who are FAR bigger than Valve can't get AI to not hallucinate/make things up & they have billions of dollars & 10s of thousands of people they can throw at the problem... how do you think 5 to 10 people might to do?

And no, it can't be run locally because most people don't have systems that could handle a LLM & besides you would still have to connect to servers and/or would also take up a lot of space on peoples systems.

Basically use a real browser to do all the communicating and use a translation addon. That I think is the best you are going to get.

Long version, use the search feature to read many other threads on this topic.

If the VAC super AI can do translation then it should be able to spot a cheater with the ability to understand any language.
