Guest passes were a thing and they were also region restricted.
But Remote Play Together is a thing that is available on many titles.
Basically...

... yeah.
i guess i was thinking it wouldn't be a loss of money because it would still require me to buy another copy, i was thinking along the lines of being able to lend the second copy to a friend on my friend list. say i got a game like spy party, it's something i convince a friend to play for a few sets but not enough to justify them buying it. i could gift them a copy, but then after a week or a few weeks of playing they'll move on, and then i'm back to playing with random strangers, only to repeat the cycle if i find another friend.
the money part makes sense because in this case i would have bought 3 games, 1 per friend+mine, vs just 1 for me and 1 to lend out, but that is too much of a price barrier for me, so now this game sits unplayed in my account. again i'd gladly pick up a second copy if it meant every now and then i could play with a friend when we felt like it. we currently just cycle through the free to plays games but it be nice to find an inexpensive way to have some online party games for friend groups.
this is the game that kicked off the idea, i have so many random fighters that my old college buddies would love, if they only tried them. but sadly i can't get them to commit to buying any of them and they are too remote for local play. and play together never works well for fighters in my eyes. it just be nice to give one a call and relive some old days with out breaking the bank and a big commitment. you buy a game like tekken 8 not on sale, and if you don't get your moneys worth out of it you just feel guilty for spending it on something that your not playing.
