Foreign translations

It would be nice if all foreign posts eg. in russian, korean, french etc would come with an english translation. I know I could copy in paste into google translate, but surely there is some script that you can use.

What script would magically offer you a 100% accurate translation ?

It doesn't exist yet. Google Translate is one of the better automatic translations out there, and it's far from being perfect : typos, language-specific expressions and mistranslated game names (Biohazard wouldn't translate as Resident Evil, as an example) would stick together to bring you a word salad hardly better than the untranslated text.

And you'd still need to detect the language used. Although it wouldn't be an issue if you're knowledgable enough (with a quick search, you can get premade source codes[code.google.com]).

And last, for what purpose ? You'd naturally reply to them in english (if you need a translator to read these messages, it's a safe bet you can't write in that language either), and since according to your suggestion, they'll be denied a english -> mother tongue filter, THEY will be the ones not understanding and having to paste it into Google Translate. Adding the option for all languages (into the one you choose as your Steam language) seems much better.

All in all, too much work for what it's worth, IF accuracy is an issue.

A rough translation is better than none. Also I didnt suggest that it would be english only. So any replies in English would have to be roughly translated by the mother tongue filter.

Is there a way we can set a filter on the forums to only display English and ignore non english?

Well Google+ did that on youtube. Guess what, it suсkеd. Colloquial speech will never gets full translation without losing its authenticity. And trust me, there is a lot of urban profanity in russian. Sometimes they can even make it, so that despite what translator you'll use - it'll fail horribly, they do it just to piss off person who they talking to.
