Notes
It would be awesome if there would be notes you can add in the Steam Overlay, and write something down you will need during playing games, for example if you wan't to add a server address, you open the steam overlay, go to notes , new note and then add the server address ,and the next day you want to play you can just go to your notes and see what the address is. This option could have many uses. Would be awesome if valve would implement it.

Indeed. Making notes is very resourceful and intellectual.

I make notes of everything I do. I use my desktop and many other people do, to keep track of things.. Yes, It would be nice to have it on Steam, however, Steam only loads one page at a time, and so ... it is more advantageous to use windows (or whatever OS you are using) as this allows multiple pages to be on - screen at the same time. Something that Steam cannot do :/

I find it difficult to operate with only one page loading at a time (taking a long time sometimes)... so I find using alternative systems essential, really.

Your suggestion is a good one, though, refering to when in a game, to shift / tab into Steam interface, and be able to get to the notes you have made whilst locked out of desktop - makes perfect sense to me.

I wonder, what if you use your profile comments for now? :)

I just came by to request this feature myself, and figured someone else would have requested it before me. I was right!

I would love notes that I can place both on the overlay, as well as in the Steam browser. There is info I need on my actual library list such as login stuff for 3rd party authentication for games or maybe which friends I should be bugging to come play with me. Notes on my wishlist would be useful for reminders like, "Be sure to grab this game in the bundle!", or "Get the multiple copies for my friends so I have someone to play with!" etc.

Notes on the overlay are awesome for the puzzle games that ask you to write stuff like keycodes down for use later in the game. Writing stuff on paper is fine, but I am a serial game shuffler, and won't necessarily come back to that game and the puzzle before the paper scrap is thrown away! I feel super guilty googling answers when I know I already had found the answer earlier in the game, I just lost the paper scrap...

For the friend's list, "Nicknames" does work for now, since I don't currently have tons of friends. But, in the past, when I have had huge friends lists, I needed note features to remember who they are! Many times a friend is tied to interaction in one game, where their handle is different, so a note feature is very useful for keeping track of not only their alternate handles, but if I haven't played the game in a while, how I know them and why they are on my friend list.

I don't use the market, but I imagine it would be super useful for tracking prices and making shopping lists.

Really, the usefulness of a note feature is pretty extensive, and ties together the idea of Steam being a 'whole package' for gaming with everything we need for PC gaming. :)

This would also be crazy useful for Big Picture on my TV when I'm using a controller. Well, provided I write the note down before sitting down on the couch anyway. Otherwise I have to constantly get up and Alt-Tab to check my "shopping" lists for fallout.
A notepad would be very useful. That way I can write down all the cool things I see in my everyday life as a normal average gamer. These notes would eventually be turned into a book that literally every woman (and probably man, too) would buy to better understand the way of the gaming man. Support this feature if you want to read my book!

I wouldn't mind this feature just added to the steam hud as another "tab". I sometimes write things I don't want to forget whle playing a game onto paper, but it's much harder when talking about odd passwords or urls.

:quickfix:I Also, Would Really Like (A Place To "LEAVE MYSELF NOTES" on Each of My Steam Games)!!!..Specialy on My Wishlist Games. Individually...Even though some games are on sale, I still don't want to pay that high of a price...So it would be nice to leave a note on what the last sale price was... I don't want to pass games up one time, just to buy it later for more...Lol. A General Notepad Would Be Nice Too :quickfix:

+1 on the idea
Yeah, sounds like a good idea.

Countless times I have wished I could just Shift+Tab to check on some notes, instead of having to reload pages in the web browser.

This will be very usefull and also add option that we can share our notes.

Ya that is a great idea there Tan. I think that would be helpful to share little things about Nooks & Cranies in games and what not!

As a workaround, I applied bookmarking advice in http://www.game-tuts.com/community/f52/steam-overlay-bookmarks-125363/ to bookmark an online note taking application in the overlay.
Still, to this day, I use pencil and notepad.
If I have the money, maybe I buy the guide to whatever game I'm playing, but it's more fun to make my own for the second playthrough :P

There are a few DS games where you can freely make notes eg. on the level map with the stylus. Steam overlay wouldn't necessarily need to go that far, but perhaps in addition to being able to write notes, perhaps it would be easy to additionally be able to literally draw whatever you want with the mouse and a simple color palette. Maybe have a mode where your text/drawing is overlaid on top of the game (so that if you have eg. a static world map on screen, you can have whatever annotations you want on top of it).

Maybe a bit too contrived for too little use, but just an idea.
