Voice / Text chat - in offline / lan mod
Hello !
It would be great if you could make voice and text chat to work in offline mode, for exemple , I wish to play with friends in a LAN local connection - without an internet conection / so i put steam in offline mode ,but after that , you cant use voice and text chat between friends . :(
So it will be great if even after you put steam in offline mode you can still use chat voice/text between friends.
Thank you !

The problem is, chat and voice happens through Valve's servers. I believe that there are voice clients available online that will work on a local network, which should be able to do what you want.

^Not only this, but in a LAN, by definition, you're close to each other, so there is no point in having a chat.

Not necessarily. A local area network is simply a network of computers that can communicate without going out onto the wider internetwork. A standard ethernet cable can reach 100m or more before it suffers from signal degredation, and that can be extended by repeaters, routers, switches, and hubs.

In a home environment, it would be easily to set up a lan game between people in different rooms, or on different floors, which would make verbal communication harder.

In that case, if there are two teams competing, a common way would be to separate them such as this hardened communication does not affect the team.

But you hold a valid point here.
