''Genre hide tab'' (all genres) for the advanced searching of games.
Please give us a tab that hides the Genres of games from our steam store advanced search.
We need one so that we can sort out the games that we interested in from the ones we know we are not.

Reason is that I am tiered trying to find one interesting game searching through 100 games that share the Adventure and Indie genre, or adventure and RPG genre.
A more filtered system would allow for a more constructive search for games.

All I want is for all of us having an easier time staying away from the game categories that we absolutely do not want to play/buy.

Add a Hide tab to the advanced searh function so that we can tab out the genres we dont want to see in our advanced search result.

Agreed. When i search "action" I'd like to filter indie out!

A better suggestion would be to just allow people to exclude certain genres, rather than just target the indie genre. That way you would still get what you're looking to do, and others could filter out "Horror" for example.

So you want to hide indie games...

So that's Valve, Bungie, Gearbox, Double Fine..... You want to hide games like Brutal Legend, Half Life and Portal.

Unless you're limiting "indie" to meaning "1 person sitting in a garage producing 8-bit type graphics" games... which doesn't mean indie, although they would be indie developers.

There are a lot if indie games which are as good, if not better, than the AAA games on offer. I agree with Canti, hiding or filtering by specific genres would work a lot better.

AAA games suck, in general. Indie for the win. Besides, "new and interesting" has nothing to do with Indie or non-Indie. The world is full of non-Indie stuff that isn't new nor interesting, <troll-bait>like FIFA, which ceased to be interesting in 90's</troll-bait>.

You personal opinion is noted and it is easy to see that you and I do not agree on what an entertaining game is, but this is good.

You dislike AAA games as you call them and I Dislike INDIE games. Lets get a tab's for all the game categories on the store that we dont want to see in our search, so that we can all more effectively and with less pain find what we are interested in.

An excelent suggestion and I agree with you completely on this.

Your first statment about Valve, Bungie, Gearbox etc. Is not the group of games I wish to eliminate, but the 8-bit supermario games that are flooding the store atm is something I realy would like to have away from my search results.

The issue here is how to define an indie game. Everyone I speak to has a different definition. Perhaps if you let us know your definition then we'll be able to see what you want a filter for.

I think the general idea of what perhaps would be the most apropriate and satisfying way to go about this is not to taget Indie games / 8-bit games alone but to target all categories of games.

When you search for games on the store, you can chose from action, adventure, rpg etc.
I would like to see a tab's in the search fuction of what categories you absolutely do not want to se when searching for new games.

example: If annyone where to search for an adventure game you would most likely find games that has the the main categorie of adventure, but are linked to other categories as action/rpg/indie etc.
What I aim for with this thread is that we can all have the alterntive to remove the categories from our search result.
If i where to chose no indie games in my adventure search i would get all the adventure games up except the ones who contain the categorie indie in them.

I hope this explains with simplisity what would be a dream come true in my personal opinion.

Okay, that makes sense, but gaming isn't like music. Indie isn't a genre, it's an idea. You couldn't filter out an "indie" games category very easily. It may be easier to filter out games that have been tagged with "indie", but the definition is still very fractured and it wouldn't work perfectly.

Is there some specific aspect of "indie" games that you don't want to see? The graphics, the audio, the developer team size, the price, the budget, or something else entirely?

I just want to be able to browse the store and its different categories without beeing flooded by 8-bit games newly created by low budget companies.

Please keep the games, there are obviously many people that likes such games and would love to keep buying and playing them, but give it its own genre/category so that we that do not enjoy them can browse without having to use hours upon hours finding what we truly search for.

If you give them theyre own genre and add a filter away system, this would make browsing for what you truly want a little more productive.
Scutterman Mar 13, 2014 @ 5:42pm
Okay, so you're looking to filter based on the level of graphics basically. That would be easier to filter against than "indie", and would be entirely possible if you could get the developers to list it as part of the game information.
Satoru Mar 13, 2014 @ 5:43pm
You're not going to get a filters on the front page because that makes zero sense to do so financially.

You 'might' get it via an advanced search option.

You are correct in that it would be highly unlikely to get such a feature to the front page, but I would be happier than pie if it would be added to the advanced search.
