Badges in progress not showing up when not owning cards for it
Heya,

maybe this is a bug or just a problem i have, but if not then i guess this would be a suggestion:

I noticed someone having a badge for "Bioshock Infinite", i couldn't remember seeing this badge on my profile although i have the game.

I knew that i played it to get my card drops, but apparently i sold the cards to get some other cards to craft another badge.

Well, i had a look then at my badges overview, but no "Bioshock Infinite" badge was showing up, not even with "empty cards" to show me that this is still a badge i could craft.

So i bought 1 of the cards in the market and now it's appearing under "badges".

I find this, if it's a wanted behaviour, rather confusing, as i can't see if i have an open badge i still can craft, even though i don't own any cards from it anymore.

I hope that was understandable.

Same here
I think it's a bug or it's because steam is under heavy load right now.

edit: there could also be a number of max. shown games/badges.

It's my understanding that it's meant to be this way. If you get all cards and sell them or trade them away the badge progression disappears for that game.

I can see the logic in it. Not everyone wants to have hundreds of those badge progression things showing, especially for games they are not interested in.

Maybe they could make it a setting? Like "Show/hide badge progression for games you don't have cards for".

Mh, true, i can see the logic.
Though i was quite surprised, because i didn't even remembered that i had an open badge and i couldn't find it anywhere, which makes it hard for me to keep track of them.

Something like "hide/show" might be a good solution then i guess, yes.

Would this mean you get shown all the empty foil badges as well?

What exactly do you mean when you say you have an "open badge i still can craft" when you have no cards for it ? You can craft any badge as long as you get the cards for it regardless if you own the game or not.

Well, right, never thought about foil badges as i'm not very interested in them. To show them as well might get messy at some pooint as Jade already mentioned.

Say i have collected all my card drops from a badge, but i want to sell/trade them, to finish another badge.
With said game, i now have used all my card drops, but have no cards in my inventory, seems like this "open badge" (or non-crafted badge) is not shown in the overview.
At least thats what happend with my Bioshock Infinite Badge.

Thing is, i didn't even knew i had this still open, as it wasn't shown anywhere (least i couldn't find it).
Which i find rather irritating, as there is a game i own, with a badge i still can craft but it's not shown anywhere so that i could keep track of these ones.

I think it is on me, but I still don't understand what you mean by open. It feels like you are attributing some meaning to the term that is beyond me. Like you mean that it is available as opposed to badges belonging to games you do not own, but that would be false as those badges are available as well.
If you really mean uncrafted then that would require steam to show you all badges you havent crafted even if you don't own the game for them. all you have to do is buy a bunch of cards belonging to a game you dont own on the steam market and craft a badge .

The only reason they list the badges you don't have cards in before you start collecting said cards is because you have drops remaining. Maybe this is causing some inconsistancy and confusion?

Well, i meant open in terms of "not crafted".

To put it much simpler:
I own a game and it didn't showed me that i can still craft a badge for it :)

And i don't want be shown all badges i can craft, i know i can craft every badge there is, by buying cards from the market and then craft the badge.

But it would be nice to at least show me all badges (be it crafted or not) for the games i own and not hide them.

No worries :)

I guess i also tend to explain everything as good as possible, but end up being overly complicated.
