Inappropriate 'screenshot' and art submissions
I did a search and I saw a thread or two about posting limits for new or low level users, but what about art and fake screenshot submissions? I see some users putting up questionable (if not offensive) images have nothing at all to do with the games for which the images have been submitted.

I don't believe that Steam Community needs to carry an effective 'NSFW' warning just because of submissions like that. I have noticed that some of these users are either new or very low ranking. Perhaps a more stringent process for such users could be implemented. In the end, I know that such images and users can be reported, but one must be viewing the images in question in order to report them.

I enjoy checking the community feeds at home or in my lunch break and I don't wish to be wary of what image will be loaded up next and whether it will get me called into the boss' office or put on the couch.

Again, I am not talking about skimpy Skyrim screenshots or Chun Li drawings. I am talking about images not related to the games nor generated by the games, but images I am sure most people would feel quite uncomfortable looking at or at least uncomfortable to be seen looking at. At the least, it is hijacking the game's feed with crap.

welcome to the internet?

Steam isn't "The Internet". It's the front for a business and I am certain Steam will be at least a little more concerned about how its systems are used than you are.

Any limit penalizing new or low level users in situations not involving actual losses (scamming, fraud, and such) can, and will, result in a big crapstorm. I've got friends that are low-ranked simply because they don't adhere to the whole card trading.

You'd be better off removing the capacity to submit screenshots to repeated offenders (if it doesn't exist already), which have indeed SHOWN that they don't care. The drawback would be that they "need" to post offensive screenshots to be banned, but I don't believe in such things as "punishing for suspicions".

I don't think that shows that Steam doesn't care. It simply shows that it is a delicate situation. I would bet that Steam does in fact care how its systems are used, else it wouldn't have this suggestions forum. And I am not advocating "punishing for suspicions". Either certain content was posted or it wasn't, and that's all that can be taken into consideration.

Anyway, if there is a penalty to repeat offenders then that's a step in the right direction. As far as art submissions go, certainly it will be difficult to moderate them effectively. However, for dummy screenshots which are just pictures off the Net, there is a way to limit that.

There needs to be a line between offensive and non-offensive. I uploaded screenshot of some anime women in a bikini and it was banned for PORN however I could upload a picture of me with a chainsaw cutting limbs of people in a crowd of zombies and there is no problem. There is also the artwork thing too, on garrys mod for example there are more gifs than anything actually related.

BTW level doesnt mean anything on steam other than I have loads of money and spare time. I met someone who has been on steam for nearly 3 years and is still only level 2.
UberNoodle 2 lutego 2014 o 4:22
Fair enough. But for example, in Mafia II there are nude playboy centrefolds. Screenshots can be either kept private or tagged as a spoiler so that to anybody viewing the feed, there isn't suddenly a naked woman filling half the screen. As for anime women in bikinis, I have nothing against them, but there are certainly some dubious examples in that category and highly sexualised one too, far beyond any argument of simple 'prudishness'.

Regardless, I am not talking about the grey areas we can argue about until the cows come home. There are clear cut examples in which an image in the feed obviously shouldn't be there, and if not part of the game nor related to that game, should it be in the feed?

But anyway, I am not here to be some kind of moral crusader. I am pretty damn liberal when it comes to putting content out there. It was just a suggestion, and if reporting such things is the only way community feeds can be effectively moderated, then, that's just the way it is.

If you spot a screenshot that's unrelated to the game, or is somehow pornographic or offensive - do report it.

Please do this. The moderators do also go through screenshots/artwork reports to clean up those sections and reports really help a great deal.

Thank you!

Reporting has little effect.

I reported this pic here, I even raised a support ticket, but nothing was done.

*removed* Please do not link to such groups.

I rally think it's about time Valve re-visited the subject and redefined what is and isn't acceptable. to my mind, it's pretty simple, this is a gaming community, not a porn community.

If it's a screenshot we Moderators can deal with it, groups on the other hand is for Valve to Moderate. But most of the time, you only find them when looking for them and if you shut them down new ones appear right away. I'm sure Valve have tried to Moderate the community but it just ended up with users making up the stuff again.

Some users just don't care about the rules and with 60+ million users on Steam it gets quite hard to Moderate all of that with a small company.
Mud'N 2 lutego 2014 o 7:57
Well they could bottle neck it by adding a Group name, group picture and description authorization Quarantine.

As we have many groups already. each new one, or changes to (name pic and descript) first needs to be approved before release. Though it is alot of work it is the conservative approach.
Then just weed out those existing via reports

I'm fed up of this crappy excuse of a response. Steam is a community that involves young users to interact in a supposedly 'safe' environment, unlike the ''internet'' which can be full of whatever you can imagine.

There have been debates and arguments about this issue for a long time. I haven't really seen Valve do much about it either. Better just do what I did and stay away from the polluted areas. Enjoy steam with friends and be selective over where you go.

You're always gonna get jackass behaviour no matter where you go. Oh yeah, and as has been mentioned, if you do see anything not right, just report it. It's the same in real life bud..anything can and does happen.

Yeah, I am aware. However, what has been seen can not generally be unseen, and this also goes for people looking over your shoulder who will not understand the complicated balancing act which is moderating Steam Community.

Here's a crazy idea, why dont you delete them from your list if it bothers you that much?
