Steam accumulates instead clearing Memory/RAM/Cache
When I start Steam, it uses about 700 MB of RAM which is ok.

During times and being online, Steam has accumulated and so occupies about 2.4 GB of RAM, even if by solely browsing the Steam Forums only..

Why doesnt Steam clears up its cache and memory over time, and instead it "accumulates" memory? This is non-sense and needs to be addressed and fixed ASAP!! Other users even yell about 6 GB of the Steam Web Helper processes..

I have Steam app open for 3 hours now, occasionally checking both store and forum. There is no increase in RAM usage on my end.

Try pressing Big Picture Mode. Then go back to normal mode. That should bring your memory usage down to size.

lol, one of the reasons I quit using big picture was because launching it would nearly double the client’s memory footprint 🤣

This is interesting. It works. Now I wonder why coming out of sleep doubles the memory usage and this trick will bring it down to normal. It has to be intertwined with BPM...

6GB? What do you do with your client? I've only seen it above 1GB once, usually it sits around 550-750 for all webhelpers and the client combined. :lunar2019deadpanpig:

That'll do it.

You basically have to stop using pretty much everything but the library to even remotely keep a lid on it, but even then it'll still leak slowly.

People really don'tseem to understand how windows memory works

You have 50% memory free, so when steam asks for memory windows goes "oh yeah i got a metric ton of memory avaialibe here you go". Applications nor windows will 'relelase' that memory unless it HAS to. if windows gives it 6GB steam isn't going to give it back if you have 50% memory free. It will hold onto it so it can be used. Windows wont claw it back because you are literally drowning in memory. This is not a 'memory leak' this is chrome using the memory allocated to it by windows. If you view pages, watch broadcasts, etc it will, like any other web page, begin to draw memory for that function. Why would it spend the cycles to 'release' memory when there's literally no need to in your situation. You have 50% free.

This isn't Windows XP where you have to manually horde memory like its some precious resource. Windows is managing your memory. It knows how to do its job better than you do.

This surely doesnt explain these additional accumulated 500 MB just by posting a latest status about this memory issue.. does posting a status on here really needs an additional and instant "permanent" 500 MB of RAM useage which increased the RAM useage from 5.6 GB to 6.1?!

Steam accumulates memory, and doesnt empty memory whenever various steam windows and tabs are closed. Why does Steam use more than 6 GB and other even complain about 12 GB, when I am just within "THIS CURRENT" thread.. non-sense..

This doesnt excuse VALVe/Steam for this "high-end" memory useage, just by having this thread opened.. 6 GB for a simple forum page opened.. oh excuse me, it is CEF, right .. it stores everything which then is sold to China..

All I can say is, this memory issue has appeared since this utter trash, bloated, non-working and crashing Steam UI and Framework update was released some months ago .. which on even today causes random Steam crashes/reloads .. Steam restarted/reloaded iteself a few days ago.

Browsing/posting from within the client itself exacerbates the issue, yes. Hell, I saw it jump 200-300MB while I was deleting some redundant shortcuts/collections a little bit ago.
