Steam Deck : LCD to OLED upgrade Kit
Hello,

As a proud owner of a Deck (LCD version), I was looking for a way to improve the screen and found this product https://deckhd.com and honestly, it looks nice and I was considering trying it out.

Since the OLED version was announced, I've been dreaming of a way to buy the new screen. Steam, are you planning to market an upgrade kit?

No, because the screen connector is different comparing the two versions:

The OLED Steam Deck is like a new device, with the exterior looking the same, but the interior is very different. So cross-planting OLED parts isn't going to work.

And too large/heavy, expensive, kill the battery life...

Would be "BIG" alright. I don't know about the seller part.

nah the larger screen actually have better thermal displacement because they are larger a slightly larger steam deck shell would of allowed better thermal dynamics and addictional cooling to be used to off set any heat, also the battery is mostly effected by the heat transfer , a thicker slightly more heavy steam deck would be well worth a better thermal regulation.

why would you downgrade to OLED? these organic displays held about 2 years then you can trash it..

That is just not true, oled screens hold up very well for many years without any issues.

Indeed, complete nonsense. I have my phone with an OLED display for over two years already. It's still the same as on the first day.

the OLED is bigger, but only because it has less bezel.

....and also filled with more pixels? It's not like they just just blacked out part of the screen on the LCD model and then uncovered them when they created the new model.

No. It's still 800p. It's the same number of pixels. This technically slightly decreases it's pixel density.

The LCD model with the 7" display has a pixel density of 215.63 PPI.

The OLED model with the 7.4" display has a pixel density of 203.98 PPI.

To put that into perspective, a 1440p gaming monitor at 24" has a pixel density of 122.38 PPI.

honestly it would be cool. if there is some sort of lcd to oled converter than can be shoved in the steam deck and work it could not only bring big money to valve can can also give us the oled experience without costing a arm or leg.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who would have bent over and paid the extra money for a 10" when compared to a 7"
