Improve the Play Time reporting to account for device asleep.
When your PC is asleep Steam reports that you're offline, however if you have a game open that game continues counting towards Play Time... Although, it won't update until you wake your PC back up.

With the upcoming Steam Deck and other PC handhelds, please improve on this and only make it count play time when Steam detects that the device isn't sleeping or else Play Time is going to be super high for every game and inaccurate.

Just thought about this as well, but it also hurts people who might want a refund of a game. The extra time that they didn't really play would go against their 2 hour window to refund. Please fix this.

Nothing to fix. Steam does not know your PC is sleeping as all it does is track if Steam exe is running and whether a game is running to accumulate playtime.

Shut down a game to stop Steam recording playtime as Steam does not have a suspend resume feature.

Close games before using sleep mode. If you're worried about being able to refund, the app being opened is simply that. Close it when unused especially if you want to troubleshoot issues.

This isn't really a steam issue.

This is not correct. Windows API has a Power Mode changed event that applications can subscribe to.

Your idea does not involve anything steam needs to do or should do because one user doesn't want to close a game to stop counting hours.

People would complain if steam wanted to essentially hook onto something outside of steam and call it invasive.

Suggestions, ideas are "please consider this", nothing more.

Steam runs as a service and the function to suspend, resume games is not built in.

You boot Steam, Steam exe runs which triggers the service, you boot a game Steam tracks playtime via the game exe, you shut down a game Steam stops recording playtime. Steam as a service continues to run until you shut Steam down.

Your PC going to sleep with Steam open and a game running means Steam will continue to track playtime as you putting Windows to sleep does not affect Steam at all.

It certainly could.

I guess only one person is going to buy a Steam Deck and install Windows on it :) Sure not going to be a ton of people just putting their Decks to sleep and the Play Time will be so inaccurate its basically useless.

What's wrong with just wanting the feature to work better? I feel like people are so defensive over any suggestion on how to improve the platform in anyway.

They're always self serving suggestions like this one is. The easiest solution is ignored by those making the suggestions, especially when more realistic.

Fact is its a non issue and doesn't need correcting. Don't want hours counting? Close the game.

Valve is literally marketing suspend/resume as a feature of the Steam Deck/SteamOS. Why would you close your game every time just to not have your time played reported incorrectly? This is the type of stuff that makes consoles so much more convenient than PC and why I make the suggestion.

"Self serving is when man suggest an improvement so when 100s of thousands of people buy the companies product in a few months the feature works better".
