just a idea merch store
i think it would be cool if there was a merchandise store connected to steam itself so you are able to buy small novelty items with left over steam money think or something like a poster or gaming figurines stuff like that i mean hell what if you could get keyboards/mouse's steam could sell more other then games

the steam deck is what made me think of this btw

I doubt Posters and stuff wouldn't be worth the costs to ship.

Keyboards and stuff are common and easy to acquire. Valve would be trying to break into a already competitive market and would really need some out of the norm to offer or a very competitive price. Personally I don't think it'd be worth the time, effort or money.

That said just because I would buy it or believe it'll be worth it doesn't mean it wouldn't be. So not getting a +/- from me either way

i see what you are saying about posters but i think that there maybe a untapped market here and steam could be helping game developers sell their merch using the steam wallet that could help develop and maintain the games they make and at the same time be making some money aswell

well u cant use steam wallet, its a separate store not built into steam, have to use credit card only

indeed it does support the developers i forget how much of a cut of the proceeds they get from the merchandise but i know they get something at least

what if the steam wallet worked i know it would be a lot of work to make a merch front for every game but steam wouldn't need to do that it would fall upon the marketing team for that game to make and if you don't want to sell merch on steam don't make the page leave it on your own web site but it would be nice to have the ability to make one i just feel that there would be more foot traffic here on steam what then would make more people support the games they love and at the same time support steam cough cough half life 3 coough cough xD

I somehow find it hard to believe that the market for selling accessories is untapped. Also they likely won't allow you to purchase physical items with steam wallet funds.

ahh yea you bring up a valid point coz if your account was comprised what stop someone from just using the money on the account to buy stuff and there would be no way of getting that money back from a refund at all

Beyond that is the fact that people can fund their wallet with just cards, so that by itself would warrant them not allowing wallet funds to purchase the physical items.

Valve does not have or need their own. They partnered with forfansbyfans and game devs can do the same.
