disable the reward, gift and card nonsense
I use steam to play games not be social, this nonsense must be able to turn off. Steam is not facebook. Steam is becoming to intrusive.

steam should only be a gaming platform not 1000 other things.

It makes them a crap load of money that selling games alone does not do. So never going to happen.

Don't want any of that stuff, don't use it. No one forces you to buy cards and gifts for people and no idea what this reward thing is you are talking about.

Don't know what you mean by rewards. You can "disable" gifts by just...not sending gifts. If you get gifts, I'm not sure how that's a problem.

I do think there should be detailed notification options so that (among other things) if you don't care about cards, you don't get notified when one appears in your inventory.
You can also turn your friend status to off, and also disable the in-game Steam overlay, I think.

It was....... back in 2003. Times have changed.
Well, it's certainly possible to use it only as a gaming platform -- just buy games on Steam and use Steam's client only to download games and disable all the social features. You certainly have the capability to do that.

Not sure whats so annoying.with what steam has
Well, no single feature is annoying, but it's sort of annoying in the overall sense of Steam keeps vaguely bugging users in many different ways to get them invested in using community features.

To request to have it all turn off just for you, a single (insignificant in it's own right) entity?
How small minded.
Well, if you disable overlay, then you will stop getting the notices that you're getting new items in your inventory.

No idea what the "reward" and "gift" features the OP refers to are.

This is the suggestions forum. It exists specifically so people can suggest things that improve Steam, and that usually means improve Steam for them. People speaking for themselves is not a problem.

And I really doubt any of us are so unique that something we might appreciate would only be appreciated by us. I would note that this is hardly the first time someone has suggested turning off things like card drops.

I am certain you have the ability to read. Now tell me. Does the above sound like a suggestion or a demand?
Gus the Crocodile Jun 30, 2015 @ 11:40pm
Well, you yourself called it a request.

If you think the OP was too demanding in their tone, that they were rude, I completely understand that. I of course think people should strive to be calm in their posts, so that would have been a pretty reasonable criticism, and if that's what you had said above I'd have had no reason to respond.

Being concerned that someone's request is being made on their own behalf is a very different criticism though, and one I think is much less rational, even before you pushed it into the domain of personal insults.

I must give you credits from nitpicking my choice of words.

My responses are rather precise. Surely, you don't need me to break it down for you.
Gus the Crocodile Jul 1, 2015 @ 12:10am
I don't believe there's anything to break down.

I object to the complaint about people making requests "just for them", because that's an entirely normal, expected use of the suggestions forum.

I'm completely on board with the idea that the OP would do better to adopt a less ranty/demanding style of posting.

I think we're both up to speed on this?

but it's not a place for pointless posts, steam is more than just the gaming platform he wants it to be, times have changed
