All games free for 4 hours
All games free to play the first 4 hours. After the 4 hour mark then it doesn't let you play anymore until purchasing. Upon purchasing you can then re access the account you started on. :rhino_dead:

Developers already have the power to offer this with timed demos. Steam isn't going to arbitrarily force this on developers as that is a good way to drive people to competing sites.
Mldb88 is right, too many 20 dollar games on here that can be completed in 30 minutes.

That is what free weekends are for.

There is (was?) a feature to do time-limited demos, but I don't remember ever seeing a game that used that feature. Generally, if developers want you to try out their game before buying, they'll make a specific cut-down version of the game intended to be given away for free called a "Demo".

Watch youtube let's plays and twitch streams to see what the game is about. Demos went the way of the dodo.

In addition, not all game saves are account bound. So you can actually abuse it by creating Steam accounts over and over again.

The Resident evil 2 demo was set up with a 30 minute timer. So its used, but again, every game is different so dev's have multiple ways to offer demos.

And yet another suggestion that Valve violates copyright.

If a game has a demo, you can play that.
What you request will never happen for obvious reasons.
