Animated Avatars
I say steam should support gif image avatars if they can fit the icon resolution.

GIF avatars take a little longer to load and are really distracting, so not really adapted for forums and profiles, and that's discounting the games that may not support an animated format.

I don't see it as a good idea at all.

Games and forums can use first frame as a still and it being animated only in the profile.

That would require every single game that uses avatars to get a new update. If the games are no longer updated, thats going to break a lot of games.

You have to take into consideration peoples bandwidth too. An animated avatar can take up megs. Doesn't sound like much but when you have 1000 or more like that it starts taking up a lot of bandwidth and there are many who have very limited bandwidth per month, not everyone has unlimited.

Also I don't want to see animated avatars all over the place. Its bad enough all the nude/rude/racist ones we see already. Now add in all the crap they could pile into an animated one.

This will not happen.

No, people's profiles have enough bells and whistles as it is. IF you want animated crap put it in the artwork showcase.

I don't need blinking avatars on this discussion forum, no thank you.

I agree that we don't need animated avatars

yes

But it wouldn't be limited to just stuff like that. People would put lots of crap together, including hiding porn in them. Then instead of just going to the profile and seeing its breaking the rules as soon as it loads, the mods will have to sit there waiting to see if the avatar is breaking rules, wasting their time that could be spend watching over the rest of the forums for other rule breakers and pointing people in the right direction.

If they did bring in stuff like that, I would want to see one strike and you're out rule brought in. I don't care if you "didn't know" about the no porn or what ever rule you broke, if you break it, you get a community ban for life, and your account becomes restricted so that you can't use an avatar or art, or screenshots or anything like that.

Every gif avatar is annoying. Forget it, Steam will never allow.
We have enough trash avatars even now, gif option would tenfold them.
