It basically allows you to create a set of games that should be viewable when this mode is active. And to have everything listed again you simply enter a four digit code so you have your normal view back.
That way you have full controll to determine what you would declare "SFW"
A neat little side effect is that it also provides another security layer. You can forbid the usage of every other feature than the library / the games you've set up for Family View including browsing the store or the community and even the account page. So even if someone steals your Steam Deck or gets into your account they are still blocked by another security measurement - it might be a weak one but still.
>complains that he can view his own purchases
If you aren't mature enough to handle what you chose to buy, you shouldn't be buying it.
Which is absolutely not what is happening here. If I go to a local sex shop and buy some DVDs or maybe some toys I wouldn't want said shop to openly display that I was buying there. But it is easy to reduce something to absurdity rather than just for a split second think about the idea.
I already gave you the right direction. It already IS THERE
Option 1, Steam Family View - as another use mentioned,
You just choose which games you want to be visible in your library when in Family View then enter your pin to gain access to your full library, including the NSFW games.
Option 2, Hiding Games
Go to your library, right click a game, then choose "Manage" then choose, "Hide this game".
To view it again, click the tiny word "View" from the top left corner of the client menu, then choose "Hidden Games".
If you added something there by accident, you can use the cog on the far right page of the game in order to access that "Manage" menu again & unhide it.
Option 3, Trojan Category (The Shell Game)
Go to your library, right click a game, then choose "Add to >" then "+ New Collection".
Name the collection "Horse Games" or something else inconspicuous.
Then add all of the NSFW games to your horse games category.
(It helps if you have all of your other games sorted into categories too, like I do.)
Then you just collapse the category.
...and if I'm not mistaken, you can actually do all 3 options together if you want - for maximum hiding of stuff you're embarrassed about others knowing you play!
WHY do you have NSFW stuff if you are using an account that others access in the first place? You can literally just hide games just right click manage and hide game. I did it for a game called House Party now even I can't find it thank god.
We're not Valve, so in attempt to assist you, this is the best solution you'll get until they see this and MAYBE decide to implement the feature . . . in 8 or 9 years...
Also, I have hundreds of games in my library & sorted all of them all. I said to myself one day, "I spend more time sorting these games then I do actually playing them..."
I understand your point, though, you have thousands of games in your library.
You want to be able to filter / sort / hide by genre tag, instead of having to select every one of them manually - except, if you're using OPTION 2, to hide them, then you only need to hide the NSFW games. If that's still "too much work", then at least a third of your library must be NSFW games .
. . . in which case... if you're gong to buy that many then be embarrassed that somebody MIGHT see your screen when in a more public setting...
...then why not just purchase them on a separate account entirely? I mean, it's a little late for that, but that would have been a good plan if you're an avid collector of NSFW games.
...so, since you didn't do that... now your only options are the 3 that I listed. Valve tends to take a while to add new features like this [library filtering], if they decide to do so at all.
It's a good idea but it probably rates quite low on their priority list given that there are other options - with Option 4 being to have the foresight enough to put that stuff on a separate account in the first place.
My library is about 3 times the size of yours... I have absolutely zero issues with using family view for that. And yes it even happens that children are using my PC from time to time.
I've set it up once which took like 30 Minutes and then it was done. Everything is filtered as it should be and every new game I buy I need to opt it into family view so there is no confusion about whether or not people should see it.
Manually tagging games used to be easier in the older client as you could select multiple games, right click & add tag, can only select one game at a time now unless it already has a tag.
