quick way to switch between accounts
I share my pc with a roommate and we both have different steam accounts, and honestly its a bit of a hassle to constantly having to log out, input username/password, then enter the auth code...

many other apps allow quick switch between accounts, such as discord, you just enter your credentials once and then you can go between accounts with a single click.

Security is never an inconvenience especially when you could fall out with your roommate who then messes with your account and gets you a Vac ban for example.

perhaps just have the auth code requirment then? upon booting up on steam you see the accounts that you have signed in from, but for each session you have to enter your auth code only

The point of logging into your account is because you know it is you doing so therefore only you have access. With a quick switching option it is only viable if you are the sole user of the PC.

if you are the sole user of the PC why would you need a secondary account? Doesn't seem convenient besides ban evasion or alting for smurfing.

Storage of extra stuff you don't want to keep on your main account.
Having different accounts for different kinds of games.
Second account is that of a child or a loved one that you need access to every now and then.
Second account for when friends/family come over and you want to play certain games together.

Lots of legit reasons to have 2 accounts.

You may want to hide those Adult games or you may have created a second account to stream etc.

Secondly Valve knows you have alt accounts.

Try a password manager. I have both my Steam accounts stored in mine and I can just have it auto type the username and password in. Then it's just the Guard code that's required

would be nice to have the option...
could reutilise some of the family sharing security.
say, if you're signed into account A on a computer, you can grant permission to quick swap to account B on same computer.

You can look into these.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/ake9st/switching_steam_accounts_without_having_to_type/
https://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensive/comments/7kvuvc/this_script_will_let_you_easily_switch_between_2/
And see if any of that can help you.
With gaming cafes being a thing, Valve stopped allowing the easy quick switch method using Big Picture years ago when people had their accounts hijacked because it didn't ask for guard codes.

Thank you for this.

This should be by default in steam client. If it's possible with scripts that means Valve has no issues with it but why not make users life easier and incorporate it in the client?

Valve's platform. Valves' choice.

nothing wrong with smurfing
also multiple accounts for
1. multiple game accounts
2. bigger inventory space without needing backpack expanders
3. starting fresh achievements

There are a few games that ban users for smurfing. Dota 2 is one of them.
