Steam Link with Steam Controller
First of all, i really like both of them, but there is one thing that really drives me nuts. I am using the controller with both, PC and Link but unfortunately eech and every time i am going to switch from Link to PC or vice versa, i need to unplug the USB-connector from one machine and plug it into the other. So my currently biggest dislike is, that Steam Link seems not to be capable of connecting to the controller without the usb-receiver.

Hopefuly someones prooving me wrong, but to the time i didn't find a way to enable the controller on any of the devices without the use of the receiver.

Well hmm yea, the USB Wireless Receiver is required if you want the Controller to be Wireless.

Or you could just leave the Steam Controller USB receiver plugged into Steam Link and then on your main PC, use a MicroUSB-to-USB cable for Steam Controller. Long as the Steam Link is off, then you should be fine, and not have the Steam Controller trying to connect via the wireless adapter.

But yea if u want wireless on both; get a 2nd Steam Controller then.

Thats exactly what i was expecting, but that (buying a second controller) seems not a suitable solution for me. Even the wiring of the controller to either one of the devices is totally against the intended usage. My wish would be to be able to run the controller on both (or even more) devices in wireless mode. Maybe Valve could provide us with possibilty to get a second (third, fourth ...) receiver for an affordable price.

It wouldn't make sense to have multiple receivers for the same controller; cause then u can't control which one it's actually connecting to at any given time. Basically if the system is powered on and the receiver is in-range, the Controller will try to connect to it.

Seriously, u move the controller from one room to another, why is that so hard to do with the usb receiver as well?

physically you are right, it isn't a problem at all to remove the receiver, but i have expected, for an even greater experience, taht the controller would be usable from Link directly. Nevertheless, the combination of the 2 devices is genious and working quite well. The only thing i am missing is this little comfot'ish thingy ;)
Maybe a receiver will be integrated in the next gen of Steam Link. if this is happening as a (side)-cause of this thread i really would be happy.

Why would it? Steam Link supports various input methods as long as it is via USB. Steam Controller is just one of them. All devices that would connect to Steam Link that are to be wireless (such as any Keyboard, Mouse, Controller) will require its own USB Wireless Receiver for wireless function.

This was all well known info.

I think that the steam controller connects to the Steam Link using Bluetooth( or some other wireless technology), so you could theoretically leave it plugged into your gaming rig at all times and still have it connected to the link when you're working with that. Idk tho lol sorry

This is what I've been doing, since my PC sits close enough to use the controller while plugged in. If you were to get a second 'dongle', I would expect the controller to occasionally connect to the wrong one, unless the link and PC are on opposite sides of the house.
