"Honestly what can you do with a profile theme ?
What can you do with 20 Profile theme's, change them every other week ?"
Same thing could be said about many other things. Clothes, Movies, Shows, games etc. You change the theme whenever you are in the mood, for holiday specific ones or etc.
If you don't like it/find them pointless, get something you actually want. If there's nothing, then ignore the point shop.
Valve isn't going to let us buy games, get discount codes etc with points. Think about the Devs. Plus, there's always a sale happening. Wait for one that'll have the games/DLCs you want in it. No rush to get anything.
People already asked to buy games (they had something before that let people get games or something like that but like everything else that helps people, it got abused) so, they aren't going to make something or let people do something others will abuse.
Surely that would stop people abusing such a system.
If that is not enough than what about having memorable answer to a question people pick ?
Could always use the same kind of security check banks use, six letter and number combination, and the challenge is to enter three of them chosen by the system at random, after entering login credentials, with limited number of tries and in a limited time frame.
There are plenty of security measures the Dev's at valve can implement to prevent abuse of discount codes and game purchase that are brought with points.
even 24 hour expiry on discount codes brought with points.
The issue isn't bots, its that developers want to get paid for their product, and there is no incentive for Steam to lose millions doing this. A 24 hour expiration code doesn't solve the issue of they want money for their games, not points.
I mean would you take steam points instead of 20% of your paycheck?
A shame really.
That's interesting logic as employee's have nothing to do with points, they get paid in real money like everyone else.
So that claim makes no sense.
I mean to piggyback on your idea i'd like to buy games with a smile instead of actually paying for them. It would be great for me, but not exactly great for everyone else. I mean my smile is worth just as much as Steam Points afterall....
I said no such thing. I suggest you read what I actually wrote. They are not being compensated in points, no idea how you would even think that.
I mean it was a thing in the past. vbut in the past:
- The ONLY way to get points was throigh purchases duuring special events
- POints expired once the special events were done.
So basically to go back to that they'd wind up having to, by neccessity nuke everyone's stash of points.
I mean - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cV1yLVyNQDw
That's why points can only be used for profile things. They'd catch flak for charging people to alter their profiles.

Developers, publishers want money to pay wages etc.
As a sidenote your boss will be splitting your wage 50/50 between money and Steam points. They are positive you will fully agree with this so no need to have a discussion with them about it.
