Yes or no?
"I don't know" is not a helpful answer.
Recommend: to endorse.
Mixed is a shrug of the shoulders and no by default.
As for the writer's opinions, there is no opinion a player may have that can't be expressed in the text box of the current system.
For games I feel thinking a game is just average is very different from saying it’s great or terrible and a writer can give a “I only recommend/don’t recommend this game if you like/dislike _____” type of deal for a mixed review.
Literally any other opinion a reviewer can have can be accurately explained in the review text.
When it comes to steam reviews, it doesn't matter what you 'think' of a game, only whether you endorse it.
Pretty much. Assertions of quality are rather meaningless when there's no obhjective measure of quality.
The question here OP. Is an Average game worthy of your endorsement. if yes. CLick yes. if no, click no.
Yes or No. Maybe is a No because it is certainly not a Yes.
You can still have a neutral stance while answering the question. Answer the question and then explain your reasoning. It's a simple process.
When asked by friends about that new restaurant, movie, book, new sports store etc, do you recommend them or not?
You recommend them or not otherwise your friends will stop asking you because your "shrug of the shoulders" is worthless to them.
Valve are not asking you if the restaurant was okay etc, they ask YOU a SPECIFIC question, "Would YOU RECOMMEND this game to other players." The answer is yes or no.
Recommend: to endorse.
Mixed, neutral are both no by definition because neither recommend a game and anyone reading your review is looking for an answer and not that the pizza is half eaten.
Valve have the system they want for developers, publishers who can see at a glance whether their game is recommended or not and in turn the viability of additional sales or not.
