Unreal Tournament games delisted
So with Steam actively promoting piracy by removing the Unreal Tournament games from sale, how and where are we supposed to purchase these games legally now without subjecting our computers to viruses?

What a great start to a thread, EVERYTHING you said is wrong.

Back when it was still listed, and alot of years ago, I had the Original Unreal Tournament 3 Editors Choice Edition Retail DVD. It was old school where u put in the key during installation.
When it later relased on Steam, I could Redeem the same key via steam which was very cool.
Maybe buy a cheap version of UT3 Retail via software pyramide and try the key.
I think the unreal series is too old to still have keys available on online shop sites that provide game keys...

I tried to purchase all the games about a month before the delisting. Kept getting error messages and Steam support refused to help. Now all the games are gone.

Yes, because Epic made the choice to delist them. It wasn't Valve/Steam who did that.

And it was Valve that made the decision to make the games unpurchasable a whole month before the delisting.

3rd party websites which provide keys.
And non genuine apps don't always carry viruses.

Those key sites frequently take credit card info and run amuck with them. Trying to redeem pirated keys can lead to account bans from what I've seen.

Nope.
Changes in the store page are managed by the developer. So it was Epic the ones doing the change

No, various friends of mine have purchased the games in the month before delisting, two even on the day before.

Whatever issues you ran into sadly were yours.

I own the Unreal series on CD/DVD. Check ebay or something? It looks like the prices are pretty reasonable, which is actually a bit disappointing for me. From your post, I thought maybe my discs would be worth real money.

None of the legit key sites do anything you claim. There are hundreds of legit sites that sell keys at isthereanydeal.com

If you can't find them, then the simple answer is you can't purchase it anymore. You'd have to ask Epic to relist them or make them available again

Nope. That one was Epic as well. Valve made zero decisions behind the removal of Unreal games.

This again?

We went over this before, and things can be removed by the Developer/Publisher and be sold wherever they want;

All I got was that there was an error to please try again later. I tried several times, all purchase attempts failed. I checked my billing address, my card info, everything was matching. I tried my Steam wallet, it had more than enough to cover the complete purchase without the need of a debit/credit card split payment method. Still error saying the purchase could not be completed. If Steam wants to help stop piracy, they need to stop promoting it.
Errors during purchase attempts does not equate to justifying nor promoting piracy.

When becoming aware of an upcoming delisting of a game you want, purchase asap if interested, don't wait until the last moments overall especially if it's during the last moments of a huge sale where last minute traffic might be too high or right before delisting. There's also you can attempt via browser, app, another PC etc to see if it's a localized communication issue, session issue etc that can cause errors especially if something is not matching which in some scenarios can include having the wrong time (by a large enough margin to matter) on the system.

You can be unhappy about missing out due to an error, but waiting last minute & not trying other methods to try making the purchase was also a choice.

Please tell me you are capable of reading. I did not say that the error preventing me from purchasing a game was piracy promotion. I am saying the removal of digital only games from legitimate sale is promoting piracy as it removes the only legal way to purchase the game. This is why physical copies need to exist.
What you wrote appeared to promote having an issue = promotes that.

If it's not for sale for being removed for violating Steamworks or the law then Valve removed it for violations.
If the Dev/Pub removed it, they could also allow you to purchase it from them, but this assumes they dont have a limited time license to the property for what they made. Kind of like how "battlepasses" have content from things they do not own for a limited time, then it cannot be purchased after the expiring of the license-to-sell.

So they can if they own all the rights to the content of the game itself, allow you to buy it from them - if they want to.
