Unlocking a thread would just make Steam's moderation useless.
There would be a warning for locking your thread, and well.... maybe you can only lock a thread after 3 days. Sound good?
You can mark a topic as answered that is the preferred method
And also, it IS a good thing that it ends the discussion because thats what they CHOOSE to do, and they prevent further argument.
I believe this is where the locking threads feature would defenenleiy come in handy:
https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/0/4751948939820932481/
As long other users are ontopic they are free to post in any topic your create.
Don't care for the topic anymore, you can unsubscribe the thread.
And what if it is? If its not my job, its still a good thing I can lock it.
I don't find a negative point though.
If im not a mod, I guess i can never stop a discussion, can never stop a speeding train🎃🪧
And idk why though....
Keep in mind though that everyone can do this.
No, because it will just end up as an echo chamber with people going with the answer they want even if its not the correct answer.
This will just end up with a bunch of closed threads with bad answers that could, depending on what was being said, actually do damage to peoples system or games because someone thought it was funny to post a question, get one of their friends to post a wrong answer that causes a bad result in a game, say thanks to that friend who posted the answer and then close the thread. From that point on you have people using search engines to find the answer about an issue they are having with a game, they find that wrong answer and now their game is corrupt and they have to start over.
If you don't want to discuss something, then unsubscribe from a thread. Also what might be an "unnecessary" discussion to you, might actually lead to something bigger and more important to someone else.
You can always just move on if the topic you want to discuss is locked. Maybe dms would be a decent idea for Steam, or maybe you can just delete comments on your threads.
*Though ive never had that (Wrong awnser, corrupt game) case before, but they should really look it up before actually listening to their friend. And if they do the corrupt answer, maybe they may not be a good friend?*
*MAYBE* If the thread gets more than 20 comments, you can lock it.
You have the ability to delete your own postings and that's it.
If anything is against the forum rules, use the report feature and let the moderators handle it.
/Have a great day.
Sometimes, it may not go against the forums rules, but also can be giving the OP stress, and so space. If the OP can just lock it, it would be much better for him/her.
Less stress, means less arguments and less stress for the moderators.
I still don't see why its a good idea though. Maybe if you must tell why you need to lock the thread, and you just need permission from Vaule, then yes.. you can lock the thread.
Not sure about that though....
And also, if the OP unsubscribes from the discussion, there still won't be any notification for the responders, and they would just be lost, and just speaking to a wall more less.
If it gives you or the OP stress then unsubscribe from the discussion. Its as simple as that because what you want WILL be abused by trolls who want to fill the forums with junk answers.
