Allow the option to opt out of achievements
I wish we had flexibility in this regard like you get with GOG.

You can always remove notifications for achievements pop up and ignore the achievement page for the game.

Why bother posting this? It doesn't add anything to this thread. I already know about this option you're talking about and it is not what is being requested.

I am so deeply sorry that I tried to suggest a workaround since this feature probably wont be implemented.
I would very much like that option, yes.

It's not a workaround. Even with notifications off, the giant banners in the library pages after getting them remain. As does the bar and the rest of that nonsense.

Achievements are fun, and very often they encourage you to play a game in a way that you wouldn't naturally play, resulting in a new and fun gameplay experience you would've otherwise missed out on.

This might be why Valve decided not to let people out of achievements, because achievements are an integral part of modern gaming. Hell, even retro games have achievements nowadays via emulation coupled with the Retro Achievements website, featuring Leaderboards and all.

Even Nintendo fans want achievements for the Switch 2.

Achievements are superfun, y'all should join the party.

Back in a previous life, I was a programmer in an online game and I wrote an achievement that required people to be awake (i.e. not just online but interactive) for dangerously long periods of time (on the assumption that players would immediately realise it was unachievable and give up).

Within a week, I had to dramatically lower the threshold for getting the achievement because of how very wrong I was.

Same reason why you posted this topic when it has been posted previously.
Maybe try going offline in offline mode, and prevent from getting the achievement that way?
Logically, there should be a file on your hard drive somewhere that you can delete afterwards to not get the achievement.

Doing this won't "allow" you to opt-out, but it would have the same result regardless. Only downside is that it cannot be done in multi-player. But it cannot be done in multi-player in the first place, because someone else may be keeping achievements of you in multi-player regardless of you keeping them.

They are so fun multiple users stop playing games despite them on PC and multiple Console players stop playing games despite there being trophies.

Agreed. Achievements are nothing more than an attempt by developers to prolong engagement with their game. The vast majority of achievements are nothing more than boring grindfests, or faceroll accomplishments for things like launching the game. They should be removed completely.

If someone wants to feel accomplished playing a game, break out a spreasheet and come up with your own goals to achieve in a game while playing - just like we did back in the good ole days before the dopamine addicts ruined everything.

People stop playing games, says nothing about achievements.

I stopped drinking in 2015, says nothing about the quality or taste of the wine.

Curious, what is the reason for this? You can get achievement unlocker and relock all your achievements if you'd like. Or place them on private if you don't want others to see them.

Edit: or play offline, I think that works.

Why would people need to use workarounds when it can simply be native. For me personally it would be fine if achievements are simply not viewable in my client and profile for myself. It's fine if it's still recorded and for others to see, you know for the average statistics and such.

It absolutely does after all despite you advocating for achievements you have only 8 perfect games from 2,024 games.

They are hardly integral nor essential for you keep playing games you started then stopped, such as Dark Souls PTDE, Dark Souls Remastered, Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin, Dark Souls III.

Number 1. You assume Steam is my main platform. The main reason I have so many games is because I like giving money to charity so the overwhelming majority of my games come from Humble Bundle. Additionally I'm very passionate about 2D games, so I support those developers by buying an extra copy on Steam, especially when we are talking about hand drawn games.

Number 2. I'd probably have a couple more perfected games on Steam if it wasn't for gym, work and quality time with my offspring, all things that are more important than gaming, regardless of how much fun achievements are.

This is a perfect example of why going on someone's profile and making assumptions doesn't constitute a good argument. Not the first time this happens.

Never even touched Dark Souls II or III on PC, so at this point you aren't even just making assumptions, you are just making things up, lol.
