Generally, websites have an acceptable use policy for this.



If the forum doesn't have an acceptable use policy, then it should constitute one.
But it's a bit more complicated than: If user posts video, then it's spam.


The system should for example take into account what subject the video is about in relation to it's audience.
How often the user exhibits posting this video or related material, and whether or not it's habitual.

Various factors should be taken into account before any action is taken, to rule out erratics and whether or not it's explainable behaviour given a certain context.


Still, I don't believe Valve actually moderates or even reads their forum. If you look closely, you can see a lot of nonsense discussions. For example: a discussion that contains one word. Nobody ever does anything about it. And such discussions remain online for years on end. I suppose nobody ever reads them,

Nah, it should be a blanket ban unless you can find some way to add something to the video via your post.

Just a link should be spam ban bams.

If you can't write a sentence or two to justify posting something then you shouldn't get to post it.

IDC what you write or post but just a solo link video thread is garbage spam and should be treated as such.

I have to say that in some case I'm not sure if people replying with videos on the forums do it to actually reply or just to drive views to those videos.
