Game Performance Reports - Store Page Suggestion
With the beta for Monster Hunter Wilds out and a number of players noticing bad optimization issues with the game, I've been wanting an update to the store page.

If the user accepts the collection of their hardware specifications, the store should include a "approximate" performance report on the side banner of any game a customer looks at. I know game developers will include a "Minimum" and "Recommended" specification section, the issue is that it is not the best way to disclose how well the game would perform.

It wouldn't work as you may think it should.

Take BO6 for example. Performance is extremely varied across all minimum to over the recommended specs. This is mainly due to how bad the game was coded. Huge amount of bugs. And this isn't even new for Activision. It happens every release.

End user PC's are not just hardware, but variations on the software installed, then there are other issues such as whether their PC is maintained or not by the end user etc, etc.

Performance therefore is variable for one end users PC to a different end uses PC.

The CPU on my PC is below the minimum spec for Deathloop yet i have no performance issues whereas someone with a higher spec CPU may have performance issues.

Note: I maintain my PC, have no torrent clients installed, do not browse for "free, cough, cough games or software" etc.

There still should be a section the store page where it lists "Players report unusual performance issues across devices" at the minimum when game developers do not take the time to optimize their games.

It's a bet...why were you expecting polished performance?

This doesn't take into consideration real-world problems such as the entirety of the hardware, software, and issues that one single thing can severely impact the performance.

For example if the CPU or GPU is overheating, one can expect the FPS to tank.
Or if the RAM is inadequate / too much is being consumed by all other tasks first; it'll either bsod, slow down and utilize the disk for virtual memory which in itself if an HDD can slow it down, with a hugely detrimental impact if it's an HDD that has the OS installed on it.

Too much total data to collect, most people would see it as "bloat" just to get enough to verify if a user issue or game issue.

At the same time, don't expect performance optimizations from AAA games right away especially if they're new.

Should be? So how are you going to word it if 99% of players do not have issues? "It still needs it because i am personally having issues?"

You literally wrote this thread because of a beta. The Monster Hunter Wilds beta which will literally have performance issues because it is a beta.

Define optimize after all failing hardware, overheating hardware, malware, latest Nvidia or AMD driver is not good on your PC, HDD not defragged, SSD not trimmed or coming to end of lifespan, issues with latest Windows update, realtime antiviurs scanning, Windows indexing not turned off, too many backgroud resources being used, singular PC being used to Stream while playing etc, etc. ALL can affect performance.

As already stated:

The game even has Denuvo which some people blame on performance issues so why does it run so well on my PC when i also have a below minimum CPU?

If "players" could be trusted, sure. You're assuming that when a game doesn't run properly, it's the games fault. I think you underestimate how many "gamers" simply cause slow down on their systems because of their own usage.

The reviews section?

Monster Hunter Wilds does posts an average of specs, required settings etc to reach certain performance thresholds.

But hardware is vast, and while similar hardware should perform as another, most times it is not the case.

Example. PNY people see as a poor card manufacturer, but their 4090's seem to outperform cards that cost substantially more. Another, my 3080TI from EVGA, the FTW3 Ultra model beats other brands 3090Ti in performance and benchmarks.

Hardware difference are vast just among the same hardware spectrum, so would be nigh impossible to get a true grasp.
