Suggestion- A Reddit like Block Feature...
We went thru this on another thread, and i think it's a great idea. I for one, am a celebrity here. And i get it. I am going to get heat, smoked, and all the rest that comes with all of that.

Here's the thing.

Moderation is having huge issues. Allegations are being made, people are not happy being banned for political and other matters.

Others, see whole threads being derailed, to focus on a poster, or matters, having nothing to do with the thread, and see their innocent thread, locked for no reason of their own.

Many of these matters, are caused by a lacking Block feature, that although someone is "blocked", it really means nothing, being they are haranguing, harassing, insulting and baiting others, thru their quotes thru others, causing a back and forth, and bans issued.

Many times if they know they're blocked, use that as an excuse to do even more trolling.

Others are mentioning, they are now getting "warnings" for abusing the Report Features.

Meaning, moderation is getting of spammed with false reports due to personal squabbles. Squabbles that can be mitigated...by a Reddit like Block Feature.

I have used it, certainly in this political climate over there, and it works like a charm.

You are in essence, "deleting" the troll from your feed. In so, that poster totally our of your life, in every way.

I think it' a win win.

It's a win for the innocent, a win for the troll (who will likely not be banned) , and a win for moderation. In that we now have the tools, to prevent having malcontents, in our lives, w/o badgering moderation..

There are many great posters to converse with. There are others not in control of their own faculties, some of which admittedly with afflictions in their lives.

Please Mr Newell, give us the tools to help your moderators, whilst helping ourselves.

Your Grateful King, and Buddy,

Ranger :steamhappy:

Uhm... no.

Public Discussion Threads are not "your" threads, or your "feed" to control who can or cannot post in them. If you want to participate in an open public discussion then that means you get to deal with the public, good and bad. If you don't want that, then don't participate... or go to a place that offers what you are looking for ... like reddit.

Simple as.

More than "no because I dont want to" its the way the forums work (core platform)

Well Reddit disagrees with that thesis, and one can say that's a real social media site. And if it's good enough for them as far a public conversation, one can say it may be a decent suggestion here.

And therefore, i have to reject that statement.

But thank you BJ for your feedback.

You'd think he'd be able to understand, since he's been told numerous times. But, alas.

Valve isn't Reddit.

What a wonderful feature.

I had a situation, where on a poltical subreddit, i'm backing neither candidate, and made my case.

Well, hell on earth was raised. However, of course if you're gonna make statements, you're gonna take the heat.

However, one person, just went to the point, of continually unproductive matter. And i'm not even going to badger moderation, due to a squabble.

I simply replied, "That is an unfortunate statement, and therefore i will remove you from my feed, and life".

And poof, more than a few months, never to be seen, or heard from again. And likely, was not banned, being i never reported him.

"Freedom of Speech" for he, and for me, don't have to hear the banter., see it, or deal with it.

Excellent tool.

Make something like one of the worst sites on the internet? Nah, steam forums doesn't need that.

It was no doubt, one of the worse sites out there. Def admit that. I think many felt that way, which is why changes were likely made.

But here's the thing. The Steam Forums have an awful reputation as well, and notorious in that regard. Changes are needed here as well.

Those who argue the hardest against an improved blocked feature are more than likely the ones who are blocked by the most users, or at least more users than the average.

I would say that is a correct statement, yes.

Except there's more of a correlation with moderation history and asking for a complete block.

Users shouldn't have the ability to prevent other users from posting on what's a forum open to everyone.

They already have this ability via mass reporting to get people they don't like banned to prevent them from posting.
