Suggestion- A Reddit like Block Feature...
We went thru this on another thread, and i think it's a great idea. I for one, am a celebrity here. And i get it. I am going to get heat, smoked, and all the rest that comes with all of that.

Here's the thing.

Moderation is having huge issues. Allegations are being made, people are not happy being banned for political and other matters.

Others, see whole threads being derailed, to focus on a poster, or matters, having nothing to do with the thread, and see their innocent thread, locked for no reason of their own.

Many of these matters, are caused by a lacking Block feature, that although someone is "blocked", it really means nothing, being they are haranguing, harassing, insulting and baiting others, thru their quotes thru others, causing a back and forth, and bans issued.

Many times if they know they're blocked, use that as an excuse to do even more trolling.

Others are mentioning, they are now getting "warnings" for abusing the Report Features.

Meaning, moderation is getting of spammed with false reports due to personal squabbles. Squabbles that can be mitigated...by a Reddit like Block Feature.

I have used it, certainly in this political climate over there, and it works like a charm.

You are in essence, "deleting" the troll from your feed. In so, that poster totally our of your life, in every way.

I think it' a win win.

It's a win for the innocent, a win for the troll (who will likely not be banned) , and a win for moderation. In that we now have the tools, to prevent having malcontents, in our lives, w/o badgering moderation..

There are many great posters to converse with. There are others not in control of their own faculties, some of which admittedly with afflictions in their lives.

Please Mr Newell, give us the tools to help your moderators, whilst helping ourselves.

Your Grateful King, and Buddy,

Ranger :steamhappy:

When people can't obtain positive attention, they seek negative attention because, to them, it's better than no attention. The screen-age made this sort of petty mentality prevalent, and that's why toxicity is the worst it's ever been. The people here wouldn't say the things they do if they were at risk of getting punched in the teeth
Reminds me of a certain mike tyson quote. We know the one. But to be honest, did you look at people in 2024? Even IRL, lot of people speak their nasty mind without fear of facing any sort of consequences. If you punched them, they'd act like victims.

In this day and age, trust no one. Everyone feel at liberty of being obnoxious and there's only little we can do about it. In many cases, it's best to mind our business. Online, these people want attention. You can only hope to catch them with a report. =/

I've had very little of those experiences IRL- but if I HYPOTHETICALLY had to do something, I'm already a ghost. Searching my name only turns up an obituary- no socials, no sites, no profiles. I would also HYPOTHETICALLY walk around with a tube-mask

Either way, it's already objectively true that moderation is one-sided. You can find threads dedicated to this, or maybe people will talk about it here after I post this, but moderation won't ban instigating/baiting even though it's against their TOS the same way that their other ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ rules are- yet the baiters stay. My best guess at this point is that it's genuinely a social engineering tactic to keep morale low, or their moderation is actually that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Anytime the obvious people are screaming "no". We all know it's a good idea, bravo o.p. you are a hero for the little people of steam
You should be raising an eyebrow when within the obvious people some say 'go ahead'

Go ahead.

Kinda sad when people ADMIT to be obnoxious only to annoy others. Jeez... This is where we're at, it seems. Can't just discuss normally or make a better use of time.

My sentiments exactly.

There is a group on the forums with various alts who have only one purpose: to troll others by constantly spreading wrong information and trying to frame "regulars" as fake and such.

The irony is, of course, that all thse alts have become regulars and are fake, so in a very projecting way they are correct about themselves.

Yeah, I noticed some individuals having patterns. I mean... I admit I spend too much time on the forums myself but I usually try to discuss or share opinions about things. I feel bad about the time I waste sometimes. If I was wasting it being obnoxious, yikes...

Not being liked by everyone is one thing. Unpopular or divergent opinions cause conflicts. But to be obnoxious on purpose for attention OR, as you say, to troll others by various ways... This is so depressing, tbh. Not a logical nor a rational way to spend time.

Sure, except the sides are 'people that can avoid insulting people or otherwise freaking out when someone disagrees with them' and 'people who can't'.

I wonder if there's any correlation between 'being unable to control yourself or take responsibility for your behaviour' and any other behaviours or beliefs.

What you said is mostly redundant. If you can comprehend that there's a respectful and disrespectful way to disagree with someone, the issue clearly does not lie within the disagreement- but in the disrespect. There's clear favouritism and targeting of specific users by moderation which is demonstrable in a plethora of threads. It's just sort of accepted here because the bans are inconsequential when it's also commonly accepted that alt accounts are free. Rarely do you see someone coming here just to spam the n word- but it does happen. There's one instance I can remember where there were posts that were up for multiple hours if I remember correctly. Either way, it's no overstatement* to say that the moderation here is garbage, and that a block feature that FUNCTIONS LIKE A BLOCK FEATURE would alleviate the majority of grief people experience here

I'm curious.

Is telling someone to off themselves considered respectful or disrespectful in terms of disagreement?

Let's be reeeal honest. Bumping is literally against the rules. So I dunno but...

Last post is from Nov 1st. New posts should at least contribute to the thread.
