Ability to make all games only update when the game is launched.
Currently, the default for games that are installed (In my experience) are set to auto update from the moment they are installed onto your machine. Currently the process for making games NOT auto update is going to the games in your library 1 by 1 and right clicking them, Selecting properties, then selecting updates, and opening a drop-down menu where you can select the option to "Only update when I launch the game"

I have over 100 games installed between two machines that I use for steam. Currently, its a laborious task going to each of them 1 by 1 and making this change.

I'm suggesting that there be a way to make a mass change for your ACCOUNT that states that no games should be updated unless launched to play.

Reason I ask is because I have games that are constantly being updated on my library, and I don't always play but keep installed due to me having games that I only specifically play with friends or I just don't want to spend the data to re-download them in the future.

Recently I had the misfortune of having to use a hot-spot, and the hot-spot is very limited on the amount of data it is allowed to use.

After opening steam and having all of the games auto-update it caused about 8% of the available data from the hot-spot to be used up instantly from updating games. Now I know I can simply uninstall them to prevent this, or go in and manually pause them, or even go to each game 1 by 1 and making the change myself, However having to do this each time I open steam can be rather annoying and very time consuming.

Requesting there be a new account setting where we can check off only allowing games to update if we launch them, maybe a a default? vs having to go to each game individually or having to manually go in and pause the updates?

A global toggle should be there, agreed.

Agreed. It'd wild to me that there isn't an option to so.

As well as adding my support for such an option, I'd like to add my reason for wanting such an option.

When I set the game to update when launched if there is an update then it is highlighted as "Update required". If I haven't played that game for a while the prompt might tempt me to play that game again to check out what's new. If it updates automatically, I might never know.

I fourth'd this suggestion.

There's only a few games I don't mind leaving to auto, but most of them I'd prefer to be kept 'update at launch'

And having the ability to set a default ourselves would be nice.

Even more annoying is the setting doesn't even save if you've uninstalled a game as it will go right back to auto updates.

Glad I'm not the only one here.
I've got over 100 games on my list now, if I leave my PC on, all day everyday like I usually do, it's just constantly sucking up data that I'm not even aware that I'm using. Rather annoying honestly.

What's new?
We've added a new section to control the default behavior for when game updates are applied, under "Downloads" in the Steam Client settings. You can set the default to: let Steam decide when to update the game (based on factors like when you last played the game, bandwidth availability, etc.) or wait to update until the game is launched.

Almost. They are only providing two options. There is another group of us that wants neither of those and would prefer the updates take place immediately.

Oh yeah I noticed they renamed the 'high priority' option to 'immediately'

Honestly, I'm kinda over the moon for this update.
Thank you steam for listening to the playerbase. Total win in my book.

You could not launch until updated even before that. What changed?

They added a global setting for changing the default to "only when launched" and renamed "high priority" to "immediately download updates"
