For Steam Awards make a "Best Anti-Cheat" category
To raise awareness for what REAL gamers actually want out of games.

I could care less about every other category when the basic premise of playing a game is nullified by people cheating.

GAME + CHEATERS =/= GAME

It's really that simple, Valve.

You guys talk a big talk about needing to innovate.

Where is the anti-cheat?

We're a quarter of a century into this millennium and Valve is afraid to talk about this HUGE GAME-BREAKING ISSUE.

Stop the cowardice.

Give the real gamers, the guys who've been with you since day 1, some credit.

Thanks

The technology is available to stop it. It will require a massive break in the status quo to implement. Late-Stage capitalism is more of a culprit here than society.

Valve needs to be not afraid to take the risk in shaking things up.

No actually the tech is not available to stop it... even china and south korea which has introduced laws against making and supplying cheats, meaning if you do you spend time in actual prison, can't do anything to stop cheaters.

We have been over this so many other times....

There is no magic wand.

Read below and if you still think there is an actual magical way to stop cheaters that they have not tried, then add it... and we'll tell you why its not going to work.

Also Valve tried invasive software to try to stop cheaters (something that doesn't actually work) and the Steam community as a whole, even those who don't play the Valve games this would have infected, stood up and said NO and Valve backed down.

Its a never ending game of whack-a-mole that has no tech that can stop it cold.

Copy and paste for every time a "I have a great idea to stop cheating" and the "DO SOMETHING" posts that always happen because people don't bother to use the search feature...

While below is mainly aimed at VAC, it can be said about any anti-cheat software.

Do you really think that they just sit there saying, "oh we have the perfect way to stop all hackers/cheaters once and for all, but we're just not going to do it cause we're lazy, ohh look at that, more money just rolled in, time to sit back doing nothing again"....

You have no idea how hard it is to stop hackers/cheater.

Blocking IPs are pointless, IPs can be changed in seconds, also if you block a single IP you could end up blocking lots of innocent people specially if the ISPs reuse IPs.

Blocking Hardware IDs is also as pointless, they can be changed and if you sell off your hardware, anyone who gets it will be banned.

Asking for some form of ID is pointless without anyway for Valve to actually Verify that ID is actually real. There is this thing called photo editing, its easily done by just about anyone. So sending pictures of the ID is pointless. There is no government databases that Valve can tap into from every single country they sell in the world because no government in their right mind would ever allow a game company access to private information.

Take the US all on its own, there are 50 different states, each with their own IDs, there is no single US ID so that would be 50 different databases Valve would need access too. Canada, same thing, each province and territory has their own Provincial ID, no actual Canadian ID. Now think about the hundreds of countries out there that are setup the same way.

There is no place that people can take their IDs to get verified because it would cost Valve a lot of money to pay those places to do that for them. You would also need a lot of places because no one is going to drive even miles every time they need to get their ID checked.

Most people do not have passports and to get one is very expensive, least it is in my country and its only good for a few years. If I'm not traveling outside of my country why do I need a passport?

Phone calls to talk to someone, pointless & expensive.

Require phone numbers won't work because there are free services out there that allow you to get free numbers and free texting. Also not everyone has a cell phone.

Sending someone to persons home, very expensive.

Limiting the number of accounts people can make is not possible. For one thing, Valve has no idea who is sitting at the keyboard. If you have 1 PC but have a family of 4 or 5 or more that all use that PC for gaming, and each of them has their own account, you just made it impossible for that family to have their own games on their own accounts, which is better then every single game for kids and adults on one account.

Valve can't even use a camera on the PC to see who is behind the keyboard because not all PCs have webcam. I (and may of my friends) don't use webcams. If I had a laptop with one, I would have tape over it. Cell phone has a case that covers the selfie camera.

Valve has to know about the hack and has to get their hands on it.
Then they have to figure out how it does its thing.
Then they have to figure out how to detect someone using it.
Then they have to figure out how to make sure they don't get any false positives.
Then they make it go active for a few weeks before actually hitting the kill switch.

Even before hitting the waiting time, this could be a few weeks work or more.

Why do they wait a few weeks to hit the kill switch? To get as many cheaters as they can in the net so that once they turn it on, the roaches don't go screaming to people "don't turn on the hack, its been detected".

Valve is also working on an automated way to detect cheating with teaching an AI what to look for. BUT this takes a long time to do and even then its not going to be perfect. Valve needs it to be perfect, to not create false positives that ban people who didn't actually cheat.

Now, do you know how easy it is for a cheat maker to change the cheat to make it undetectable? Sometimes its as simple as changing a few lines of code and thats it. Basically a few minutes work, then compile the program, test it, and upload it somewhere.

So if you want to help Valve, stop making posts like this. Look for people spreading urls to websites with hacks and send those urls (for the hacks and hack sites) to steam support. Don't post them in public, just send it to steam support.

If the game is not VAC protected, then you have to contact the game developer/publisher via the games discussion area and ask them how to submit the stuff to them.
What if Valve commissioned a study.

Step 1: create a secure environment
Step 2: run a test
Step 3: analyze results and create a spectrum of data that analyzes skill
Step 4: routinely conduct the test to ensure advancing meta is up to date
Step 5: use this data as a constant backdrop against individual player skill and isolate anomalies
Step 6: require KYC

If they did this, you would have a start to something new and something better

You can't use overwatch if your data is from cheaters who are constantly manipulating data and purposely pretending to play the game while simultaneously cheating.

>KYC

Ah yes, require sending in a picture of yourself with you ID and SS# to be verified by a random person to play a video game.

If you honestly think that is a feasible thing(most countries don't allow that) then you are too far gone.

So other countries don't have online banking?

Considering Valve has a stock market built into their platform, I do not see how this is an issue.

Online banking doesn't use KYC. It's dishonest to imply that KYC is remotely similar to online banking.

You also didn't help your argument either.

Ok forget KYC, they could do all the other things I listed.

Which wouldn't solve your problem like you think it would. In fact, it may just reinforce speculation since everyone thinks they are better players than they actually are.

The majority of the workload was carrying over skins.

See this is part of the issue, i just looked at your profile and as a 20 years customer i am pleased by your inventory item list, its normal it doesn't show excessive trading or anything that looks suspicious.

you are a wholesome and honest csgo player and its nice to meet one. on the other hand i seen another profile just a few minutes ago that showed 12,000 inventory items, and i mean right off the bad its resonating with scamming.

even links to try and scam trades yet that same person just posted not to long ago that they where accused of such things, and honestly its all to weird. I am at a loss for words really.

We are all aware that csgo / 2 has a high level of cheating and scamming, and these cheaters and scammers are bold enough to even engage the community trying to hide it.

Clearly the user messed up an maybe switched pc's or reinstalled steam and never set the profile back to private, but i got screen shots of it, there is no longer any doubt what so ever that they are not what they claim to be.

Personally i don't think steam should of even carried the skins over, csgo 2 should of been a new game not a update to a 13 year old game. But simply to due away with the past 13 years of item scamming inventory from people, and delete it.

i am sure you love your inventory and worked hard for it, your profile proves you did, but maybe you can agree that the cheating is also due in part to the inventory scamming.

removing skins from future FPS shooters will greatly remove the cheating.

100%

And the prices are so inflated at this point it's ridiculous.

I don't care so much about my inventory as I do having a knife that looks more up to date than the really basic models from 2012 CSGO.

The things I've worked hardest for are the service medals. By contributing to the community by being a fair player.

Not everyone else sees it that way as evidenced by the disgusting trolls who constantly talk about my rank and skill level.

The truth is, if I was in a LAN environment, I know I'd be in the top 10% of all CS players. But without an anti-cheat I'm relegated to taking a back seat while trigger bots and aimbots dominate the field.

i understand completely, as a Free user who pushed for Csgo to be free an offered my thanks for making it free, i also played CSGO and Earned my Prime Status, which i found out Prime had Better cheaters that knew how to avoid getting caught.

It was a testament of skill to actually play that 35 levels or what ever it was to gain free prime and one that i enjoyed embarking on. So i understand completely the level of game play it involves to navigate CSGO.

its more self gratification of ability then what others think of you. Just keep up the good fight, anti cheat really won't ever fix the issues, even with games that include anti cheat currently like for example Chivalry 2 the level of cheating and abuse can still be seen by any of us that are aware it goes on.

The thing is really some of these players need it to play, they just can't function with reality of being inferior to others in the world. And more so its a cash grab for the companies that keep banning an reselling the accounts to people who need the cheats to continue playing.

CSGO made steam a lot of money but making it free was the only way they could continue to declare its over inflated population existing.

I'm curious as to why an account with 12,000 inventory items would resonate with scamming. I ask because I have an account with a lot of items and skins. However, I've not traded in CS for 8 years or so. The Steam gifts I paid for myself. The backgrounds and emoticons etc are from crafting badges and Steam events, everything is legit.

I've never scammed anyone and wouldn't want my clean 21 year old account to be tarnish by claims of being a Scammer, Thief, Fraudster and Manipulator of Purchases, Manipulator of Discussions, Scammer of Innocent Customers or part of a Criminal Theft Ring. :spazwinky:

Tito,

This is always your answer.

Have you tried playing CS2?

I just want to know if you're aware of what the experience is like.
seems excessive and often times any excessive use is comparable to disclosed issues. Who can say why, but reputation is funny that way, while some might see excess as some gratification others see it as pointless or trivial or even corrupt.

it might be a good idea moving forward to not engage excessively or declare it within a community, its possible that by self declarations the doors where opened which created what ever issue with personal choices made.
