Multiple installs of the same game.
Simply put, I'd like to be able to install multiple copies of the same game and be able to choose between them when I click play - either multiple copies of the same version (for modding, to complement mod managers' game profiles), or different versions of the game (accessible via beta branches).

I'd love to be able to play the latest or release version of Stellaris at any time without having to reinstall the game when my preference shifts, and to have a native profile system for games that use the workshop for mods.

steam already has a feature called beta branch where the devs can save any version of their game for you to play, this is what you want. Ask the dev to consider adding it.

Does this specifically allow the beta branch install simultaneously, or is it the version selector accessible via Properties > Betas?

yeah via Properties > Betas but its only 1 at a time, to change version you would go back to that tab and pick another version from the drop down list.

I use it for 7 days to die as me and my friends like to play older versions from time to time.

Ah, yeah I know about that already - I'm asking for a way to have multiple versions installed at the same time, and to be able to switch between them without a reinstallation each time.

One particular use case of this would be awesomenauts which has an offline mode version (for people who owned it before it went free 2 play) & an online mode version.
