Game achievements disable option.
Would be cool if Steam users has option that disable game achievements. To be able enjoy playing the game and nothing more.

I tend to like achievements, and agree. I play near exclusively narrative games, and (often) like achievements due to it providing for motivation for running through a game more than once. In point-and-click adventure type games obtuse puzzles and bouts of getting stuck can disturb the narrative badly enough that you really only "get it" on that next run, with then the mechanics known and out of the way -- but/and achievements can be a distraction on the first run, as well as interfere with a "guiding" aspect they may have on a second, when you already have some random ones that you stumbled onto the first time.

I.e., even if I like achievements, I'd probably often disable them on a first run of a game. Yes, a global and per-game switch to have Steam ignore achievement unlocks would be good (but Steam probably won't, or at least not if the game itself doesn't "opt in" by using a new unlock method or flag that is documented to be able to be disabled by the user).

Disabling the Steam Overlay for one game or for all is the way to disable Achievement Notifications, since there isn't any other way...

The suggestion is not about notifications but about the achievements itself. Could be easily implemented simply by having Steam ignore unlocks; they as said probably however won't without the game electing for the possibility of its own (potential record of...) achievement unlocks and Steam-sides disagreeing -- although a game had better not throw a fit on a mismatch now either, what with possibility of Steam-sides achievement_clear.

Notifications are not problem, the problem is that completing achievements takes a lot of time. For example, Barotrauma, I liked this game on the first playthrough, a lot of fun, some extra time to complete all achievements. Then the game came out of early access a few years later with a dozen new achievements. Okay, the second playthrough was felt like a second job after my main job, all the tasks and conditions were completed, 670 hours in total. Let me go? Wait a minute....boom - after one of the latest updates, another bunch of achievements was added to the game. -_- Time to move on, a lot of good games awaits for me, please, but perfectionist inside me in tears. Now I hate this game :winter2019angrygingerbread:

How much bugged achievs we are encountered in our gaming experience; multiplayer achievements from single-player games, multiplayer part in which died long ago; paid DLC achievements (say hi to Euro Truck Simulator 2, Payday 2, even Dying Light); etc., etc. All this stuff goes fun to developers/publishers not me.

I would really appreciate some options to disable or hide the achievements in my library and the ingame notifications.

I guess hiding them instead of deactivating them would be the best way to implement a solution.
This way you would not see them, but you still get them on your account and could still turn them on later if you want, also the global achievement stats would still work as they do now.

Really odd actually that this isn't possible yet after all this years, there are many options, but this is really missing. Please Valve, make this possible :d4_cry:

I don't think its a necessary feature and really can't understand why you don't enjoy playing with the achievements in the backtab. Just play as you see fit and ignore everything else. (-at least on first run)

Gaming without achievements is like hiking without summit. What you ask is like hiking without saying to your buddies or note to self, 'hey I went up there the other day' instead you say I just went for a walk. Which is nice but it's more fun with achievements on and part of the sport- for example:

  • sometimes the achievement name is funny or

  • the time you did a specific event in the game is marked or

  • you did something by chance and that granted you an achievement popup out in the blue,

  • killed a hard boss and you want to hang it up your showcase like a real hunter will do to the spoils of the hunt, etc.

It's your game tho and not having that kind of experience but the bottom line still says it's not a necessary feature for most users.

Actually, gaming with achievements is like you walking out of your front door and going "hey, I just walked out of my front door! I deserve a trophy and accolades!"

Achievements are just meaningless drivel, the bulk of which are nothing but mindless repetitive grind. "Oh look! I mashed the space bar 50 quintillion times!"

Back in the day, before the Konsole Kiddie generation demanded a reward for breathing, we used to play games for the fun and challenge of playing games. Nothing more and nothing less. Nothing else is needed.

Prff, back in the real day we had to encode our achievements on punch cards! Damn kids these days know nothing. And get off my lawn.

Everyone has it's opinion about achievements, not much to argue about this.
We are just asking for a personal option to hide them, it wouldn't affect people who prefer to have achievements.
