Create Guides for Games You Don't Own on Steam
I have quite a few console versions of games, and I'd like to share my knowledge with the community. Why do we have to own the game here to write a guide? Is trolling the only reason, because there are tons of those from people who do own the game.

There is no way to confirm you own the game on another platform.
Trolling is the only reason. But you are right there are plenty of troll guides out there.

Yet, a bit of dripping water doesn't mean the whole flood gate should be opened.

Perhaps there could be a way to use the template, then instaed of going straight to "publish", it could go to a temporary location where the local moderator could review it to make sure it's real.

Wouldn't the content of the guide prove I owned it? How could you write a guide with out the game?

The content of the guide does not prove ownership of the game and besides owning it on the console doesn't mean youll have a good basis for a steam pc guide.

You could watch youtube videos or just troll in the guide.

There are many non related game guides or guides not tied to particular games. To make one you can use the holy link which bypasses the community hub. Nothing wrong or illegal about it.

Why do you even need to "prove ownership" in the first place? If it's accurate and helpful what does it matter?

As far as gameplay goes, I don't think there is usually much difference between platforms. Other than KB+M vs Controller and how you phrase it(Right MB vs. X button).

I just wanted to do something helpful, and you're making it seem malicious.

You need to own the game on Steam to post a Steam guide. Make a youtube review and post it in the games forum and on your profile. People will question why you dont own it but youve made a guide.

Which is why I created this thread in the suggestions section. I'm suggesting we be allowed to create guides for games we don't own on steam...

Like I said, I own non steam versions of games, and I'd like to share my insights with people here.

How do you get to that(other than that link), and where do they end up when you're done?

Only way I know. Have you made a guide before? It ends up in your profile and has the visibility of hidden/friends only/ or public, depending on whether you want others to see it.

Badge guides, steam upgrade guides, etc are all examples of guides made by bypassing the community hub

I've made several guides, but I always went through the specific game.

Even if it's set to public, if it's only on my profile how would anyone know where to look? It would be like writting a tour guide book for Paris*, and then leaving it on my front porch. Sure it could be useful, and some people might find it, but the majority of people going to France will never even know it exsists.

* Just because I don't live in Paris doesn't mean I couldn't possibley know anything about it.

Therein lies the issue. If it's not attached to anything searching will be an issue. Most likely it would only show up in a google "steam paris guide" search.

Same. I want to make a guide but can't just because I played it on Steam. why the hell does Steam purchase matter when it comes to guides and helping others?
