The ability to copy links into the Steam client URL bar?

Say someone sends me their Steam profile as a link outside of Steam, it's basically impossible to open that link within the Steam client, the URL bar only lets you copy links, not paste them.

actually i found out that the "www." in URLs opens them in your web browser outside of the steam client, but URLS without the www will open inside your steam client

Open a new window using control+click or middle mouse click your avatar on this page and paste the URL into that windows own address bar.

OP, this is a work around that works for me too.
but your suggestion is still fairly valid,
if we can paste URL into a separate steam browser window, we should also be able to in the main client.

The main window is locked for a reason.
