Badges for adult themed games visible to minors

There are a number of badges and trading cards not appropriate for minors. There needs to be a way to hide these badges, or at the very least not display them to accounts not of adult age. When viewing a user's badges, you can see badges for games not intended for minors.

TLDR; Allow users the ability to hide individual badges on their own profiles or allow for a setting at the viewer's level to block all content sexually explicit in nature. To satisfied the "whataboutism", allow that filter to trigger on a number of genres - shooters, fighting games, adult content, etc..

This seems like a legal issue that needs to be addressed if an 18+ game can be advertised to minors via badges, trading cards, and the like.


Negative replies against such a mechanism will be considered not in the best interests of children and you will be blocked/treated as the predator you are. Thank you for understanding.

Valve reviews all badges and trading cards before they are allowed to be published. One of the requirements is that they are safe for all ages. Do you have an example of something they missed?

There is this one user who gets banned a lot for posting hate speech, etc. that has a vulgar profile icon officially from an "adults only" game that got banned off Steam. Can't remember the details.

Instead of just saying "there is stuff thats wrong, fix it" how about posting a link to these badges and cards you are talking about. You should be able to find the cards easy enough on the market and link them here.

Mention what game the badge is for or else nothing can or will be done because what is inappropriate to you, might be fine for 99.999999% of the people on Steam.

Maybe times we have seen people complaining about inappropriate stuff and it turns out to be someone in a bikini or nothing is showing or 2 people of the same sex hugging each other... so basically nothing.

Funny, I can’t even write them in here without it being censored. That should be enough of a give away that these badges are not appropriate for minors.

Let me be clear here, I do not want these things removed from steam… I just want appropriate protections in place or the basic ability to hide these from those that are not the intended audience. No need to pull out pitch forks and jester awards. :)

Wait... wait wait wait.... is he referring to the badge just displaying the NAME OF THE GAME when hovering over it? Don't actually play any of those or seen badges so can't test if the name of the game gets abbreviated or hidden.

There's no adult content on those badges. They're barely even suggestive.

Is it the names of the games being visible that you're worried about? Even if you consider that a problem, if any parent is doing their job as a parent, they've already enabled Family View and they've restricted community content, including profiles. So no kid with parents who actually care are going to see any of that.

If you think games or badges visible for games titled “Hot ♥♥♥♥♥ College” are appropriate for minors, authorities need to come check your computer. Your responses will be ignored as I’d rather not converse with a PDF.
