A Karma / Redemption System
I've been reading a lot about VAC Bans the past couple hours. I started looking into this because I wanted to know if there was a way for me to get unVAC Banned. There is no way for me to do that but I did have an idea. Could a karma system like Redd-it has be implemented into steam? Or maybe not even a karma system but a path for someone to redeem themselves from a VAC ban. I have not put a ton of thought into this or come up with a strategy to implement this. I just wanted to put this out here in hopes that maybe one day I could get the chance to earn my gaming privileges to my main account once more.

I'd love to hear y'alls thoughts on this idea. Thank you for your time..

Sorry, but I disagree. Cheaters should stay permanently banned. I would say, that giving them ability to play on second account is too much already, but there is no good way of banning people (instead of accounts).
Valve used to remove Vac bans after a year or so but people carried on cheating so now all Vac bans are permanent. If you've had your ban for a while then I'm sorry but your ban will never be removed. There won't be any karma or redemption system put in place because people cannot be trusted.

No. Your second chance is creating a new account and starting over. That is already quite lenient

Nope. As Piston said, second chances were once given and cheaters went right back to cheating the moment the ban expired.

At the end of the day, when you are cheating in a match, you are ruining the experience for every other single person in that match, and that experience is ruined for them permanently. Why shouldn't the punishment for cheaters be permanent as well?

Cheaters are not sorry for cheating.
They are sorry they got caught.

I think the redemption idea is a good one. There's no harm in giving someone a chance to redeem themselves. And to make it work fairly, a 'three strike you're out rule' could apply. This would prevent players from just endlessly cheating and then redeeming themselves like the ban didn't really matter.

Many prisoners get released on good behavior and turn right around and commit the same crimes that got them arrested in the first place.
Cheaters do the same thing.
Many of them create a new account and get banned again for cheating.
Most of those begging for the account to get unbanned are people who bought the account and want the items locked on the account.

I hear what you are saying. I don't think valve should just release the ban after a certain amount of time. What I'm suggesting is a system that is based on good behavior or action (for example: 5 years of no game bans, player commandments, active good participation in the steam community. and then you get like parole or some ♥♥♥♥ where valve will give you a soft ban release.) Obviously this is not a flawless system and I could tell you ways to cheat this, but with enough brainstorming and testing I think it could be pretty nice. Lastly, I DONT have any hope of my account being unVACed, I just like the idea of getting a real chance to work for it back, and who knows maybe this discussion gets big enough for valve to ponder on the idea.

They had a system where they gave the cheaters the benefit of doubt by totally removing the Vac ban from their accounts. People didn't learn, they just went back to cheating on their newly unbanned accounts. Valve decided it is not worth the hassle so all Vac bans are now permanent, no parole, no second chances, no third strike and your out, if you get caught cheating you're done and dusted.

I know how I could get around your idea, make an account, cheat, get banned, don't use account for the time it takes for the ban to be removed for good behaviour, ban gets removed, rinse and repeat...

@ Big Choppa

You chose to install cheats and ruin the game for others. Your Vac ban and your Game ban should be permanent.

Secondly you can prove you have changed by creating a second account and not installing cheats, which is your redemption, but first wipe your PC and start fresh.

They have both a Vac ban and a Game ban. They chose to install cheats and ruin the games for others.

Their redemption is to create a second account and not install cheats on that account, but first they need to wipe their PC and start fresh.

Someone can also cheat, learn their lesson come back and be fun to play with and everyone has a permanent good experience as well.

Only on a new account. :spazwinky:

High school has zero relevance when you knowingly and deliberately installed cheats.

Valve already tried limited time VAC bans... it didn't work. Now they are forever. Its super simple to not get a VAC ban... don't cheat. Don't let people on your system who could cheat. Don't family share with anyone who could cheat.

So no, you will NEVER be unbanned. Your only option is to make a whole new account and DON'T CHEAT ever again.

My only problem with that argument is you are completely ignoring all the people that commit a crime once and then learn from their mistakes and actually become better people from it. My ban is from me in high school. Me now and me then is completely different. Along with that this is my alt account that I have been using that to play cs. Where I don’t cheat because I learned my lesson when I got banned. My point is some people do change and I just wish there was someway for a person who does change to redeem themselves. For me it is about having all my games on one account cause I’m OCD but that’s just me haha.
And you just solved your own issue. The redemption is being able to create a new account and not use it to cheat. Unfortunately, it also allows cheaters to endlessly cheat on new accounts, but your redemption is there for the taking. You just have to accept the punishment is not being able to fully use the banned account, just like the prisoner who cannot get back the time he spent behind bars. Seems more than fair to me.

Being in High School, they should have already known that cheating of any kind is bad.
