Please fix not being able to claim a free game due to Region Restriction
The game I'm talking about is Dead Island Riptide

If I'm not spending any money on this title whatsoever, and it actually DOES show up for me on steam store, despite that it would usually NOT show up because the game is not allowed to be purchased in my RU region. Like, I get it, if I do buy it, my tax money goes towards X or Y which the publisher may not enjoy. I get all that

But why do you have a system where I AM in fact, capable of seeing this game pop for me on steam store only to tell me that "error occured while adding game to account". It's free, I'm not paying any taxes nor am I contributing to "controversial" causes so what the hell?

Fix this, either make it so that free games that are not allowed in a certain region NOT show up to people in that specific region/currency on steam store, or actually allow those people to claim the title since they are not paying any taxes on buying it, whatever the discount may be

The regional restrictions on availability are because of your government, not Steam.
Taxes have nothing to do with it.

Just because the game is free for a limited time doesn't mean they don't want certain countries to be able to activate it on their accounts.

Techland pulled their products from sale in Russia and Belarus which means you can not purchase or add their games to your account through Steam until at least the end of the war, when they put their games back up for the 2 countries.

Same goes for...

Microsoft (includes Bethesda, Mojang Studios, Activision-Blizzard), Rockstar, CDPR, 4A, GSC Game World (S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series and a big RIP to Vladimir "Fresh" Yezhov who passed away in the war), Ubisoft, Behaviour Interactive, Supercell, FromSoftware, Sony (Bungie), Bloober Team and 2K (Firaxis Games).

They all did the same while the war is still going on.

It does not have anything to do with governments.

Your inconvenience may not mean there's a problem to fix, or that the system isn't working as intended. Something being free doesn't necessarily negate regional restrictions. The reason for the restriction probably isn't money.

Can you not claim the game through SteamDB either using, or not using, a VPN?

I wouldn't do it with a VPN nor suggest bypassing restrictions.

Many Devs are preventing sale or redeeming things within Russia, Belarus, Ukraine - or any combination of such - because of current sanctions against those areas, or personal choices in regard to the current war. It's unfortunate, but there's nothing you can do other than contacting the Developer/Publisher.
Just claim the game through SteamDB...

There should be no reason to go through Steam itself.

My question was that why do I actually SEE the game pop on steam store search when its free. When its not free, I can't see it, it's not there, because my currency is ineligible for purchase. So why is it that Steam makes it possible for me to actually see the game pop in the search only to tell me "error occured" when I try to redeem?

Either block the game page from being seen, even with 100% discount, or actually allow us to get it. One of the two. Cuz right now, it's very misleading
