Feature Request: Turn off Achievement Progress Notifications + BPM Improvements
Steam Achievements that support progress indicators have a few issues:

First, Steam Big Picture mode makes it harder to differentiate achievements from achievement progress; there is no "(1/10)", "(2/10)", etc at the end of the achievement name like there is in the normal client overlay. The only way you can tell that these are progress notifications and not achievements themselves is because they remain grayed out and the Achievement Toast sound doesn't play.

Another issue is that these notifications can be quite spammy; in the standard client, a literal stack of notifications frequently pops up for the progress indicators. Meanwhile, in Big Picture Mode, these notifications show up one at a time and can be quite excessive.

In the below video, I defeated the first boss in Horizon Forbidden West, and the notifications just look like absolute spam:

I propose a few improvements here:

  • First, allow us to turn off Achievement Progress notifications without disabling the entire overlay or without disabling Achievement notifications themselves. I appreciate the feature, but I only want to see achievements themselves pop up.
  • Second, improve the Achievement Progress notifications in Big Picture Mode. Make it more clear what increment you're on. So instead of seeing "Stealth Kill 10 Machines", you would see "Stealth Kill 10 Machines (3/10)"

Thanks y'all!

This is also needed not just in BPM but regular Steam client mode while playing games...

It almost looks like, from some cursory searching, that this is now possible, but I've tried disabling the Steam overlay, and I still get them. I'm now at the point of creating a custom skin to do this based on the information provided by omega32 ツ:

The reason I think it's still an issue is because of those of us gaming on Linux. I don't know what percentage of games this happens for but I know for sure this happens for me with Just Cause 3. In fullscreen mode, if there's not too much going on in-game and an achievement notification pops up, it doesn't seem to occur, but the minute anything is really going on and an achievement notification occurs, it causes the screen to flicker and come back to a fullscreen of just solid black and nothing seems to bring it back; I have to terminate the game and run it again. Fortunately, the game not only autosaves but has completed the autosave each time it's occurred, but I feel like one day I'm going to lose progress.

I just started Horizon Forbidden West and every time I level up I get a notification for the achievements at reaching levels 20, 30, 50, and 60. Really wish I could disable achievement progress notifications and only have achievement unlocked notifications. Did a Google search and saw this post, just wanted to add a comment in hopes this may be implemented one day.

Horizon Forbidden West is super spammy. Almost every kill or thing I collect causes a notification to appear.

Same, I'm here because of horizon forbidden west - awful game from user perspective. I especially hate that I can't just use normal controller setup in steam input - only the one that uses the awful steam input configuration they implement ♥♥♥♥ them
