Family play (for mother)
Listen, games are essentially for all ages. I wanted to share something like a tag. In short, I'm trying to teach my mom to play games. I'm looking for games for my mom, and while it’s possible, there are still difficulties. I'd like to add a tag, something like 'family' (I mean, for your mom, no matter how silly it sounds). This is just my suggestion; I'm just trying to convey the idea. I don't think I'm the only individual who decided to teach their mom to play games. In general, if this was possible, it would probably be cool...

The various mothers of the world have varied, distinct interests — what do you consider “for a mother” to mean?

I'm not arguing, it's not that mothers have different interests—everyone on the planet has different interests—but I propose creating a tag for games that could broadly fall under a category like 'For your mom' (or whatever you want to call it). Let's assume some simple farming games (simple not in the sense of 2 + 2 = 4, but rather in terms of not requiring extensive data, making the game easy enough to get into, if that makes sense). For example, I could take farming games like Lightyear Frontier, Fae Farm, Slime Rancher, Stardew Valley, or other games like Party Animals or the Sherlock Holmes series. Sure, it's all a matter of taste to some extent, but these games are still interesting to get into. I just wanted to propose the idea, and it can always be developed further. As for simple games like 2 + 2, I don't have anything against them either; I just showed games that require doing something, though I didn't mention PlateUP

Also, I apologize for any awkward phrasing; I'm just using a translator.

I hope for your understanding.

Reads a lot like “casual.”

It does.

"For your mother" tag will end really bad knowing the internet.

So you basically want a casual tag, for people who are not gamers. Being a mother is irrelevant, and that tag already exists.

I mean a tag that would already show you games under that tag, instead of searching through the 'casual' category, which has 41,000 games. It would be much easier if a 'For Mother' tag could filter out a certain number of games and just show you games with that tag. Not in the sense that it matters if it's for your mom or someone else, but as I mentioned before, something like a 'family' tag. Suppose you want to find a game—sitting and searching through 41,000 games to find 5-10 (or maybe more) is a hassle. It would be nice to generalize a certain number of games under a genre/tag/subgenre or however you understand it, which would filter out about 20,000 or more games from the 41,000. Casual is casual (it's great, but you could also add a subgenre/tag/genre like 'For Mother'). I understand you could ask why not just find the games you need, but I was just suggesting an idea, hoping it could be developed further.

Main reason why that tag is not suitable.

Tags are user generated, so that creates an issue in and of itself as a tag has to get enough use to become searchable. In order to get enough use, enough people need to tag enough games with it. That means searching for games for which those tags are appropriate. At the end of the day, you want a tag that is simply to specific for it to become useful. You are better off simply searching for specific games, or at least within a specific genre, or using an already existing tag that will suit the same needs you are trying to fulfill.

I apologize for the possibly stupid question, but can moderation or any kind of scanner in the form of a person, or maybe specific people, assign tags? Or can everyone mess around with this?

Well, many reasons can be thought of, but the fact is in the implementation. I'm not saying it should be done exactly as I proposed; I gave an idea that can be developed into anything.

There's also "family friendly" tag. Do note that, internet being internet, not all games tagged as family friendly, are actually family friendly, like the Elden Ring that came first in my search for the tag. :cozyspaceengineersa:

Anyone with a Steam account can assign any tags to any game they want. Just push the + button at the end of tags in any game's store page. It'll also show all 20 most popular tags for the game and you can also flag any tag you find inappropriate there.

I understand, but out of curiosity, I just looked it up. A previous user mentioned that anyone can add a tag, but I'd like to point out that any user can also report a tag on any game, which can lead to its removal. This seems to be more of a social issue, but how can a social issue interfere with a tag? For example, how can it be a problem if it's more about the community? I just don't understand if there is any moderation besides complaints. If there is, then what’s the point of developing this idea (no negativity intended) if everything is already being addressed?
