Free games weekend is not compatible with family library sharing

I have Dying Light 2. It is the free weekend and I wanted to play it with my husband and kid. However, going back ten years this has been a consistent recorded issue with steam family sharing. It should be fixed after ten years. I want them to try it out and see if they are interested as a group.

why do you need family share for free weekend? it's free weekend

Free anything can not be shared.

They can use the free weekend access during the weekend it is free and go back to borrowing when it's over.

despite the free weekend, it tries to use the family share copy.
temporary work around, remove the family share.
long term, something valve should fix.

Just turn family share off for the two days or hide the game from them

I forgot the beta has the Private Games option that when a game is marked Private, it is not available for sharing. This could be used while the free week/weekend license is being used and can be removed from being Private afterwards, allowing the game to be shared again.
