Account resale is out of control
I was checking the many, many websites showing accounts for sale.

To my surprise, I came across a "pro" CS2 account that has actual "Major Medals" for sale.

I also came across someone selling a bulk of 500x CS2 prime accounts for pennies compared to a Prime account.

When is Valve going to do something?

There is at least 20x websites doing this. It's obviously very profitable considering the amount doing it and the giant inventory they have.

It's totally tainted the player base because you can't trust literally ANYONE if the can spoof all the credentials that make an account look legit.

Please, guys, do something about this.

UPDATE 3/26/24: Here is from my latest match in CS2 with at least 8 out of 10 players on bought accounts: https://streamable.com/lx78g7

its a scam those accounts would take your money and then reclaim the accounts from your with any items you bought or games purchased on them, do not fall for scams like this
Not all of them are scams. There's definitely a situation where these accounts are practically being generated 24/7 by account farms for drops. They in turn resell those accounts for more cash after they've accumalted hours/medals which in SBMM's eyes, equates to trust.

I wouldn't see a constant influx of medal'd accounts with no commends if this wasn't happening.

This isnt true at all. What game uses a SBMM that isnt based on skill? You know what SBMM stands for right?

Valve is not the internet police. They have limited control over harebrained things users are determined to do. And they don't control websites the world over just because their store is well known and successful.

Even if Valve gets a few sites taken down, all the rest will still exist, including new ones that pop up all the time. It's not a fair fight. And you being oblivious to that doesn't mean Valve isn't doing anything. It just means you don't understand the scope of the problem.
You're basically making excuses for a company that has billions of dollars to not enforce their own policies because .... "they're not the internet police"
That's the simple truth of itv though. Valve does what it can. But those sites are typically hosted outside US jurisdiction, which makes any legal action a hassle and worse tend to be hosted in countries that have a stance of non-cooperation. I mean you cald ask the same question why a multi billion dolalr and famously litigious company like DIsney can't shut down the torrent sites with their movies.

Um, no, as a customer I expect them to spend that money to enforce their own rules.

What is going on right now is totally unacceptable.
And not every customer expectation is valid.
After all the customer is frequently ignorant.
I mean most people who eat hot dogs have no idea how that sausage gets made.

ITT: private profiles making excuses for a billion dollar corporation not enforcing its own policies

It's crazy how these people defend a company like it's paying them

I'm not saying I'm an engineer with a magic solution, but if I was an operations manager within Valve, surely with a minimal budget, things could be employed that would be cognizant of the bottom line.

Truthfully, I think Valve is getting as rich as it is because it's got a reputation for always turning a blind eye to misbehavior until it's like blatant (key money aka criminal $ laundering), but then you have to ask, why was that feature there in the first place if not to launder currency in some form?

It's just exhausting. This place feels like an asylum where an endless onslaught of untrustworthy accounts come out of the woodwork to argue "pro-Valve" propaganda.

They do enforce their own policy. If you are caught on a bought account, the account is locked.

I don't know what they have in place to actively catch these accounts, but considering the rampant rate at which I play against them in MM, there has to be some data that can show if an account was farmed at any point.

These accounts should be purged the instant they've been detected to been used by a bot farm.

Ah, so this just comes back to CS2 and stats.

Of course it does.

Account selling is happening.

Though this is just a disguised rant thread about CS2 match making.

So your suggestion is what? Ban everyone who changed their email or password because that account could have been sold?

Because that is literally the only accurate thing they have. They can't track and back into every site selling accounts

Ban every account that is linked to account bot farming. I guarantee there is a signature they leave in every match performing the same actions Everytime.
