Hi,
When will Steam update their controllers to recognize PS5 controller?

I just want to be able to select the variety of controller options when I play games with a controller. Instead of it defaulting to Xbox controller layout.

They already have.

What button prompts are used in a game, entirely depends on the game. Not Steam.

Steam can not magically replace those button prompts for whatever you want.

Whenever I connect my ps5 controller without playing a game, it still gives me the error message that the controller connected is not compatible or isn't recognize.

Is it possible that Steam need to update their driver version for dualshock?

Try updating the firmware of your gamepad:
