Remove or tweak emoji awards system

At this point, with what's going down on the Helldivers 2 forums, I'd honestly just love for Valve to either remove emoji rewards, or the jester ones.

It's reached a point now where guide sections for games are filled with meme/joke guides, that aren't even real guides (yes they even show up in the modding/config sub sections), and they all contain next to no content within them, besides a couple of lines, a meme and they end up farming Steam points as a result.

With Helldivers 2, it's basically been a back and forth of "add LGBT content to game" threads, most of which are just copy pasted from one another or using ChatGPT. The users get banned, but the threads remain open, the user still farms the Steam points.

Then we have the counter user, who notices the LGBT OP's got banned, so they make threads spamming "give it up/we don't want X/Y LGBT content", and they end up doing the same, spamming the same dialogue, farming a load of points, sometimes being banned or not, and just repeating the cycle if they get away with it.

It also doesn't help that gaming journos, being what they are, have decided to pay attention to HD2 forum bans and are drumming up cycles of hate towards Arrowhead for banning spam threads, but also on Gamers in general.

I'm not sure if it's random trolls doing this, or SBI and ilk invading the Helldivers 2 forums to cause this mass spam (It is one of the games atm that is quite popular), but it's just getting stupid to see Steam points system being abused in the worst way possible.

It's making forums, a general and basic feature kind of a joke, when anyone and their mother can simply spam threads to farm points, possibly get banned, yet still receive the points regardless.


Sorry for the rant, I'm just tired of having to sift through each game forum/guide section these days and seeing points farming threads all the time, instead of people using the points system via just buying games and earning that way.


TLDR: ppl are abusing the Steam points system to spam threads to farm them, which is cluttering forums and guide sections quite a lot.

The issue is, you'd need moderators cycling through each game forum, guides and all, or relying on ppl like me to report the spam, but even I don't have the time of day to do this for every single forum.

Valve/devs would need to hire more folks just to keep up with that.

You could easily solve the farming by simply removing the awards and leaving the other cosmetics in, that don't contribute to points farming.

If it wasn't the awards, it would be the likes, which would get farmed. The system is self healing, I rarely see too much joke guides, and if I see one, well, a good meme guide never hurt nobody. Just don't click on it.

Because you don't see it happening doesn't mean it's not happening.

From what I'm seeing it's not a "self healing" system, it's just people taking advantage of ppl that are easy to annoy to farm said jester emotes.

There's even a thread about the jester awards farming on Steam discussions forum, so I'm not the only one noticing this.

I don't think meme guides should really be a thing, in a section where people are genuinely looking for helpful guides.

A joke thread on the general forum and doing it one time and not several would make sense.
