Jump In! (Twitch integration)
For me, the killer feature that Stadia proposed was the ability to jump into the game state of anyone you see streaming a game. That is, to start a game in the same scene, with all the game saves, all the specs, gear and loot.

See Zeke playing Yakuza: Like a Dragon and would like to play it, too, but don't want to start from scratch, just continue? Jump in! See Cohh up against a hard boss in Elden Ring? See Dan raging in Cuphead? Want to get into it? Jump in!

A feature that would allow streamers (if they choose) to safely share their gamestates and saves, so you can jump into the exact scene and try it or branch off, that would be awe-some.

TO BE CLEAR:
I mean starting a game on your own from the same scene. I don't mean joining a streamer in their game.

To be fair, joining a game was another feature that Stadia proposed but that's not what I mean.

I imagine it would also be a real money spinner. There are plenty of games I've watched for many hours, that I'm itching to play, but I don't want to go through everything I've already seen. So I wind up either not buying and playing, or buying but not playing, or neither watching further and yet also not playing.

There are probably quite a few people like that. Who don't want to repeat all those hours I've already seen. Which having already seen it, feel like a grind.

The ability to Jump In would motivate me to both * buy * and * play *.

If it was, more than the failed stadia would have done it.

This is also something that Twitch would need to integrate with the games themselves, and just going off the games I have, very few would be able to support it.

You would also need a whole file transfer infrastructure behind it to support file sharing - and keep security at a high level.

I don't think its as popular of an idea as you think it would be. Most Streamers don't want random people joining them in game because you are going to get people joining just to ruin games, just to cause trouble.

This is why most streamers (at least the more popular ones) try to keep their game accounts hidden to people.

Also if it was as "killer" an idea as you think it is... every other platform would be providing the service. But they aren't.

As to such a feature requiring a safe infrastructure, I completely agree. But Steam has most of that in place already for its cloud saves. The adaptations would require a way to exchange save states between accounts -- not that difficult -- and ideally a way to also snapshot a particular scene or moment, not just a game save. That'll be trickier.

I understand what you mean, but I don't mean joining a game. Just playing the game from the same scene, on your own.

Which is impossible for many, if not most games, to support. You forget that this type of infrastructure must also be supported within the framework of the game itself. While I have games that would work like this - such as simulation games like Cities: Skylines or Farming Simulator, even those have problems depending on mods used and system specs of different computers. Most games, that have a structured leveling experience, would not be able to support a system such as this. And quite frankly, they really shouldn't.
