Please allow us to use Stickers on the message boards
It's a shame we can only use in Steam chat :lunar2019deadpanpig:

No thanks. We already have people who spam emotes in every post they make.

This is the main reason why not.

Honestly, stickers would really liven up the message boards :praisesun:

Also would further encourage point spending use.

In turn, even MORE spam and points farming. Great.

Oh heck no, non-moving emoticon spam, moving avatars/frames and awards are already bad enough. I don't want to be bombarded with even more crap in every single thread.

Yes it is... and how well is that working.... oh right.... its not. It would be even worse with sticker spam, slowing down the already slow moderation.

Murder is ALSO "against the rules", so to speak, that doesn't make the victim any more alive afterwards. What I'm saying is, the punishment doesn't make people UN-experience spam.

I report spam rather often and I typically receive a reply back stating action was taken, though takes some time.

I'm gonna guess you haven't been around long so you haven't seen the racist/homophobic/misogynistic/disgusting spam done by someone using a bot to post a bunch of spam for hours in the middle of the night on hundreds, maybe even thousands of post/thread/groups and then seeing it take over 2 weeks for Valve to get around to cleaning it up....

Rules don't stop the spam. Accounts are free to make.

Ok so how about this.... limit 1 sticker and 1 emoticon per post and limit posts to once ever 5 minutes to limit people making 10000 spam threads/posts in a single night.....

Oh right they could have 1000 accounts, all run with bots to make that spam.... because when posting becomes difficult like that, the spammers WILL adapt to spam.

Oh wait... you don't like the idea of being limited to 1 post every 5 minutes.... well thats the only way to slow down the spam and make it more annoying... least till they adapt and start using bots to make 10000 free accounts, connect to free VPNs to they all come from different IPs and spam.

Course... I guess we could put that limit on limited accounts and private/friends only accounts... but then they will just go and buy a bunch of already unlimited accounts that have been hijacked, make them public and spam away....

Are you starting to see how hard it would be to stop the spammers?

IF Valve ever did something this bad... and they have done many dumb things before like the stupid awards that people spam for, they would need to make it so that you can turn off all stickers and all animations EVERYWHERE and have it work not just in the steam client but also in real browsers and have it off by default.

They would also need to make it so that if you have it off, you can't use stickers AT ALL. And to stop people just turning it on, spamming and then turning it off so they don't see spam, it should come with a 30 day delay. Turn it on and you can see the stickers right away, but you can't post any for 30 days. If you turn it off, you can not post stickers right away, but you will be forced to see stickers for a full 30 days. So in total it would take 60 days for the stickers to go away. Making it as annoying as possible.

It should also start off by default.

Valve already made one big dumb mistake with the awards... I don't think they will make a mistake like this with this bad idea.

Oh and instant perma ban from all the forums, guides, reviews and everywhere else people can make a post or put text, including on their own profile which gets wiped clear. with no ability to add any friends or even chat with them or anything like this... basically make the punishment really harsh.... it won't stop the spam, but it will be funny for the rest of us seeing people coming whining on new accounts... which breaks rules, see that get banned and then see them come back with a new account whining.... no not really that would get old really quickly.

You must really hate stickers, sadly, your emotional wall of text contains very little actual valid argument. Whatever it is you are upset about, it has very little to do with stickers. You are just being a spoilsport.
If you don't want a discussion, and just belittle other users, you are wrong here. Go use twitter and you can post as many gifs as you want.
AmsterdamHeavy Feb 13, 2024 @ 3:35am
Oh hell no.

As someone else said, if they added this:

Off by default and if the poster has animations off, then there are no animations for anyone else.

Actually no, it's probably one of the top 3 reasons why it should never be implemented.

Maybe you fear stickers will be used like jesters. At least stickers don't award points, meaning people will be less likely to make bait threads. Meaning LESS spam.
You don't know these forums very well, do you? Nor the gaming community as a whole, either. It would have no effect on Jester farming and would, in fact, only increase the amount of forum spam we see.

Fine... I'm positive that this suggestion will cause more spam and more reports to steam support, and more people posting in the suggestion area for Valve to remove the really bad idea.

See that was a positive post.

Nor are yours, or the OP's.
