Try Monster Taming.
Ok, "Monster Taming" does work. Thanks!
We need a better form of tagging things, a sizable number of games I see tagged as "Creature Collectors" have nothing remotely connected to the genre>
a number of the results just scrolling down are things like Hidden Object Games, Agar.io games, coloring sims, Clickers, gachas, etc, with nothing remotely in common with the actual genre of Monster Taming akin to Megaten/DQM/Pokemon/Digimon/MonsterSanctuary/CassetteBeasts/Palworld and etc.
WHile that issue is mentioned, similar overhauls would be very useful for genres such as Fighters/Beatemups being lumped together despite being incredibly different gameplay styles,
And both CharacterAction/SpectacleFighter being misused heavily to the point there area bunch of games that don't even fit either of those tags when seeking for DMC/Bayonetta style games, with stuff like Space Channel 5 and Beatemups and 2D Zelda style games being in the mix even when combined with the Hack&Slash tag.
The issue of meme tagging and people being allowed to do things like purpose put tags like Story Rich Rougelike Psychological Horror Hentai Soulslike on licensed shovelware games for 5 year olds are a different story for a different day, but should be addressed eventually. {Not like Steam cares about managing anything carefully though...}
You could argue that any fishing simulator should be tagged with CC, or even games like twilight princess since you collect bugs (if it was on steam lol), or even spyro 3, since you collect dragon eggs that hatch into baby dragons. Literally collecting creatures. These games don't belong in the same tag as something like digimon, or monster rancher and if we aren't going to change the tag name from creature collector to Monster Taming, we at least need a seperate tag for it
This makes it even worse in my opinion, because it shows that they're puposefully using the same tag for two completely different things like i mentioned in my comment above this one lol. Yea let's tag stuff as Monster Taming for now :)
Monster taming is a step in the right direction, but Taming I feel is the best answer to this problem.
All the reasons pertaining to use in the YouTube community I think are gross; trying to shift the community to match their brand instead of vice versa feels very greedy, manipulative, and self-aggrandizing, but I think creature collection is archaiac and that Monster Taming is a superior term with Taming alone being the best end state for the genre.
