Give a barebones, standalone mobile authenticator app or SMS only verification

I hope someone important gets to read this.

If we're going to do this mobile app thing, it needs to be compatible with older devices. I'm not upgrading my phone for this authenticator. I can download and run the Steam application from Google Play but it won't let me input a code, the onscreen keyboard doesn't pop up when I tap the bar to input. The app is broken for me, presumably because of my outdated phone.

Don't know why we can't have a barebones application that just does authentication, or even better, just SMS verification. Why can't I just confirm with a text message like Google does? Then even if people had "dumb"phones they'd be able to use this.

I had to install it using Bluestacks on my PC which is a complete piece of garbage, so I'm just going to revert to email only notifications and I guess I'll have to live with 15 day market holds, which is just awful.

All of this seems so stupid and such a hassle, and all because a few bad apples can't keep their accounts secure. Really, really strange cause I've never had an account hacked into in my life. Steamguard via email already seemed like more than enough security. Unbelievable.

The Mobilephone app is done through the official Steam app on the mobile. When you have activated it it keeps generating a random sequence of letters and numbers with a 10 or 15 second time period.

You use this code to confirm any item you put on the market and a cool down won't appear.

That seems pretty easy to me and I have used it.

There is a SMS protection system which sends a SMS to your phone if you login on a new device. Then you just need to type in this SMS code into Steam to login.

Or is this too difficult?

If your phone doesn't work properly you're using severely outdated hardware. The app works on my 4+ year old Sony Xperia. If you can get Steam to work you should be able to type something in.

SMS verification is right now only for login protection. I don't think the company dealing with the SMS verification would be to fond of sending out a SMS code for every single item being sold on Steam.

The reason email verification isn't on the list is because when your PC get compromised your email is bound to get hijacked as well. Giving the hijacker the tools to empty your account.

Valve won't split up the apps as they like to keep them together.

what about your phone being stolen by someone (that can also be anybody), and if he gets infected and you are not aware of it, you lose a lot of personnal informations,i still think giving a 15 days cooldown is way too much for just selling for exemple a few cards to get market weapon or that last steam card you need.
What if there's a steam sale and you don't have a phone ? you wont be able to sell some of your stuff to get a game you really want at a certain price. and by the way i'm pretty sure even with that mobile application update, there would still be people being hijacked.

Edit : Sorry but this is my opinion and probably some of the others on steam.
