US Army
I get it, sponsors are sponsors and rake in money, but as a multicultural platform located all around the world, I thing it would be in good taste not to let ANY army from ANY country, sponsor stuff on Steam.

Just a suggestion. don't forget, people are here to NOT be confronted with the harsh reality of war and conflict, unless the choose to.

would be much appreciated

Well, generally you're right, but sometimes you need a good shooter simulation to take the edge off.
The army happened to have made a few on steam (AMA3 for example). I do think anything beyond that shouldn't be happening here on steam. If it is I'm sure its legal and they've crossed their t's and dotted their lowercase j's.

Thanks for your reply, What made me think was the Dreamhack page.
makes it feel like a freggin recruitment page. and imaginable some people rather not log in to steam to be reminded of the friendly fellows that carpet bombed their neighboorhood last year.
for that reason alone, I think Army sponsors have no place here, regardless of which army it is.

the example you gave a games, I can get behind that (I like a good shooter myself every now and then)

sorry in advance for any grammatical errors and unneeded Caps, im on phone XD

ANYONE who makes a game, who is in good standing with Steam can sell their games on Steam.

The Army does not sponsor Valve or Steam. They might sponsor 3rd party game makers to make games, but that doesn't matter to Valve.

If you don't want to play games that are made using US Army money, or using the US army in them then you don't have to. You can go and buy something else. Valve is not going to stop games from being sold just because they are paid for by the US military.

If a military from somewhere else around the world wanted to do the same thing they are welcomed to do it, as long as the country they are in, is not one from any number of countries blocked by sanctions.

If you want your military to do it, ask them to sponsor a game.

If you don't like that other people are buying games sponsored by the US military... well thats just too bad, they can make up their own minds.

If you want a multicultural (as in military made up of many different nations) then go buy the G.I. Joe game thats on Steam. It is after all a Military force made up from many people in many nations from around the world.

If people don't like that, then they don't have to buy the game, they can return it if its under 2 hours of game play and 14 days since they bought it.

Again, as long as the country is in good standing and not sanctioned, they could have their own army pay for games to be made.

Don't look up America's Army on Steam and who developed/published it and why it was made in the first place.

Counterstrike is the best game to train army troopers with ! because it is a teamwork game where you need to be fast !

Just like in real life .. if you arent cooperative or your soldiers is slow on that trigger when it counts, then the platoon will be dead within seconds !

Games like Arma 3 would be 10 x better if it had the same free movements as Counterstrike have, but it dont, so Counterstrike wins on that part !

The army got their own training simulators, used to train their soldiers .. the newest one´s you get a full body suit on and is moving around in a Big hall with objects and stuff around as a HUGE walking 3d game simulator where you need to move around ! the enemy´s is then the 3d game of the targets you need to take down .. e.g. a hostage simulation where the troops need to train to get in and take out the hostiles and rescue the hostage and get to the chopper with them ..

America Army was the first version of it .. the newest version support full body suit with googles and weapon systems and walking/moveing sensors, but that one is not for the public & only for military training purposes !

Well at this point ESL has been sponsored by the Air Force for three years now, so this isn't new. I 100% understand why the military wants that sponsorship given their targeted demographic for recruiting and it's not hard to see why the ESL took it (dolla dolla bills yo), but ya I'd have preferred they stayed away from the military sponsorship's as well.

For someone not from the US this is weird indeed. "You like playing vidya? Join the army, get shot for real - it's what all the cool kids are doing!"

I think that the sponsorship of those energydrinks are much worse than army sponsorships.
Pscht 2023 年 12 月 16 日 上午 3:40
Energy drinks don't make people shoot at each other in real life.

Valve discriminates not against whom the publisher is or where the developer's funding comes from. It is a business.

If people can have social-political based sales, then this sponsor can be done. The only issue I have is if taxpayer dollars for military is going to video game sponsorship which defines government waste.

If you're not liking the sponsors, you can contact dreamhack as they made the event. They're a swedish company, so it's not like they are directly related to the sponsor.

I dunno. I mean if its being used as a recruitment tool to drive enlistment and has been shown to have provable results...it's probably better than their usual advertising.. plus more cost effective.

The issue is many use themed sales as a sort of social recruitment as well.
To axe one, you would need to axe them all.

Compared to the amount the US military spends in a month, the sponsorship here is nothing more than a rounding error.
