Download all updates button/immediately download available updates global setting.
I don't like leaving updates queued, I don't like their weird random schedule. So I'll click them all manually. Just give folks like me a download all updates button and/or a global setting to immediately download available updates. Doesn't have to be default, but would be a great time saver, especially on the Deck where the download button seems less responsive than on PC and hitting "download now" returns you to the top of the download list for some godforsaken reason.

Change the update settings for each game to High Priority. That will bypass the scheduling and cause the game to update immediately.

That's too clumsy and slow. I have thousands of games, with hundreds installed at any given time. This should not be something I have to "solve" with silly things like setting each game manually.

I've got 1700 installed, all with high priority update settings. If you tackle them when they get scheduled updates, over time you'll find less and less that you have to change. There are some workarounds to change them in bulk but it's not something that can be done within the client.

Steam's default behavior is going to have them scheduled. That came out of the pandemic lockdowns to ease bandwidth across the networks. It was also a common complaint for many before that who struggled with updates being downloaded and installed immediately upon start up.

Im not saying your idea is bad, just giving you an option that you can perform now in the meantime in case you don't see your suggestion being implemented. It's been asked many times in the past and we've not seen it.

So instead of struggling, take the initiative to make it easier for you by changing the update settings. You'll be there manually starting the updates anyway. Save yourself future clicks and just change them to High Priority when you find them.
This is still sorely needed...

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
