Steam os Installation For windows 7 computers
Steam should want to support its windows 7 users, by offering a easy windows 7 install for steam os platform.

something simple that windows 7 users could click a link n download from steam, that would have a simple walk through to installed steam os onto the computer with a multi boot option allowing windows 7 to remain on the computer while providing a steam os boot to give those users the ability to log into steam an continue to play games via the proton alternative.

steam needs to help its users want to move over to steam os choice , providing a way to make it effortless and easy for users is important to the success and continued growth of steam and steam os for all users.

They already have it - https://store.steampowered.com/steamos/buildyourown

Installing an OS is not like installing software (which requires the OS for the installer to run). It's always going to be more complicated then clicking a link and clicking run.

It's as simple as downloading a file to a USB stick and booting off the stick. Same way you install any OS including Windows 7

Just use a good Linux distro instead. There is nothing that SteamOS does that you can't have elsewhere as far as I know.

Yep, but 3.0 SHOULD be available "soon" and will be the same method to install as 2.0.

Of course you could also use any other linux OS as well which all have similar methods to install.

Hehe yep, was just typing that too. Lots of options and all are very similar to set up.

They said soon over a year ago. Even in Valve time, that's slow.

tried it once and didn't work for me , only bio froze my computer and raised the temps of the cpu and gpu, never loaded past the bios not sure.

i put the whole thing onto a primary ssd drive so it didn't try to wipe out my harddrive, should of installed it within minutes how ever it did not.

what i am asking for is a simple easy way to use windows 7 to install steam os onto a second harddrive and basicly do it all easy for the user so that user can then choose to boot into steam os and log into steam.

however i do see some issues with steamguard being hard to access if you steam os your computer and don't have a way to get email for hte steamguard key.

You had months to figure this out yknow?

There is no shortage of tutorials on dual booting.

Windows 7 is not capable of doing what you are asking, so you'd have to ask Microsoft about that

thats unfortunate for windows 7 users i guess, i have used windows 10 for a few years on this pc, so no big deal for me but i was interested in trying steam os , it might actually be good a older laptop.

i think steam should get serious about its steam os and improving its package and its delivery, i am sure there are lots of steam users would be interested in getting it to work.

offering a solution to users that really isn't a solution just isn't a viable choice, and like i said the chances that the install doesn't work is high and could overheat or damage someones computer is also a risk.

techinally windows 7 could be able to run a linux box of steam os right? would that be a solution for some users? windows 7 running steam os via a shell? thoughts on this

Again the installation of an OS is not done via Windows or any other OS. Its part of the bios of the computer. Hence why you can install any OS onto a PC even when that PC has no OS installed.

i understand that, but a pre os installation configuration would be nice, as said one that does multi boot option to load drivers to boot steam os option.

i would consider myself a above average pc user, so having attempted it an coming to a conclusion that it seemed dangerous to install steam os onto my computer i stopped.

again this was do to the pc hanging at the bios ,no fans running other then cpu fan an case fans. no gpu fans.

in any case what your telling me is steam wants to provide steam os as a solution but doesn't want to provide steam os.

Nope, steam provides Steam OS, and just like every other OS it gets installed in basically the same way via bootable media since those don't require an OS to be present to run and work off the bios.

Er...you do know whart an OS is right?
I have tio ask because this sentence creates much doubt in your understanding.

Yeah you have no idea what an OS is. especially considering you are talking about two entirely different codebases

I mean you can't get much easier than installing STeam OS as it is now.

They have. They have provided the option. They've provided the download. But the user is gonna have to do some leg work. Besides,. Seems already most of the hold outs have alreadyu opted for migration.

so your just saying steam is ok with losing a few million or more users that really exist, great to know.

if you haven't already looked you can see steam has a over whelming postive bot infestation going on in its review system an sales, yet experienced computer users can't even get steam os to install on a typical computer system. its questionable on just how many hours it took steam to get steam os to run on its own preconfigured steam deck hardware, let alone random pc systems.

Nope, because your drastically over-estimating the number of windows 7 users. Your also forgetting that users running 15 year old hardware/software are not buying as much if anything as those running more modern devices, as well as not taking into account that most of those users will simply update when they have no other choice. Just like the last 5 times an OS was discontinued on Steam.

Your also forgetting that this isn't anything new and other stores/games are doing or have already done the same thing as its normal for antiquated software. See many stores still supporting Windows ME, 98, XP, 2000, etc?

As far as your inability to run basic installations I can't comment on your personal issues. Perhaps those experienced computer users don't actually know as much as they think they do. Fortunately there are plenty of places available that can assist you for basic tasks like that if your not able to figure out how to do it yourself.
