Hi im representing here every people who have Windows Vista & Windows 7. Due many reasons, we love & prefer this OS over the last ones. Microsoft also told they will soon limit Win10 so only 11 wil be available. That's not an option for us, and we let out everything in our love for the old Win OS. But the main reasons for it concerns about Privacy Agreements, and also the Outstanding Visual Themes & The Performance! It's just incredible. We don't want to sacrifice our beloved Steam bcz of this but we will do witdoubt doubt if we are forced to. Due in our main comparisons, we only are playing a few games really required from Steam, althoug most of us have cash etc we could end using it & play outside Steam. Some of us have been already stopped playing Dota 2 (Not me yet) But as an example of how Hardware or OS Upgrade force requiring is forcing players to leave Steam (not only some games) And how bad will it be for the platform, despise the modern game it have. My personal reason to stay on Windows 7 is bcz the main three reasons we all agree: Incredible Performance, Privacy Agreement & Outstanding Visual Themes. We hate Windows 10 & 11. Talk to Microsoft. They are the ones who dropped support years ago. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what you like to use. I prefer Windows 98 myself. But time and technology march on. You either march with it, or you get left in the dust.

While I agree there should be more choice in OS, I doubt Valve will continue to make Steam work for older systems.

I will never use Windows past Win10 on my devices (work uses Win11, and it's terrible).
Linux is the only viable option once Win10 becomes obsolete. The existence of Windows was a terrible mistake for the world

Don't worry. Windows 12, 13, 14, 15 and so forth will be supported as well when they come out. At the same token older Windows version support will gradually be dropped as they become deprecated and MS stops providing them updates. Anyway, Steam's support for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 will end come January, 2024. It's already set in stone and there absolutely nothing that will change that fact. Upgrade or change to another supported OS or be left behind. End of story.

It's actually because CEF no longer supports win7 - and Valve wants to update Steam (which uses CEF).... Still not really Valve's call though, since they need to update for security

It's fine that you and the people you "represent" love your OS. Your reasons to stay on 7 are irrelevant in the grand scheme and it all still doesn't mean others have to accommodate that.

It's fine if you all start using sources outside Steam. it will survive that.

If Valve doesn't want to provide support or a legacy client or anything, that's their prerogative. If you don't agree, you're free to go to your local consumer agencies and/or law firms to file a case.

Personally, the first thing I did on Win7 back late 2011 was to disable Aero
